The Japanese have taken another atomic hit

It appeared on social media, but it didn't really make headlines here due to the Iran issue.

The topic caught my interest because of the close ties between the Japanese and Turkish construction sectors.

Most of you don't know or remember, but the Osmangazi Bridge was built in partnership with a Japanese contracting firm.

Turkish and Japanese engineers worked together.

I was also following the project closely.

While I was taking my civil engineering students on a site visit, I was shaken by a breaking news story that hit the internet.

The Japanese project manager of the construction site had committed suicide.

He had ended his life by slitting his wrists because he could not come to terms with a setback that occurred during the project.

The Japanese officials who came to his funeral even remarked that it was fitting, saying, "He could not have lived with this shame anyway."

The incomprehensible action of the prime minister of a nation with such sensitivities, while it didn't attract much attention from us, created a shock effect in the world press.

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi visited Arlington National Cemetery and stood in silence, laying flowers at the graves of American soldiers, including pilot Charles Sweeney, who took part in the nuclear bombing of Nagasaki.

Looking at the state that a nation, which has been taken as an example for years with its pride, discipline, and diligence, has fallen into or has been pushed into, I cannot help but say that the Samurai in the Shogun series were rowing in vain.
