While there are many reasons for the economic bottleneck we have entered in recent years, one reason might be the story below.
Let me tell you about a tragic theater I overheard during a coffee break at a business meeting.
A prominent businessman says:
I am a businessman.
My primary goal is to make a profit.
To grow my business.
To employ workers cheaply and get ahead of my competitors.
The nationality, race, or religion of the worker does not concern me much.
I look at the profitability and efficiency of my business.
I am after producing the highest quality at the lowest cost. By producing the product sought in the market at the lowest price, I must be ahead of my competitors.
I must pay as little tax as possible, if possible none at all, and reach the cheapest financing in the easiest way.
Speaking of financing, it reminds me of the loan I took out last year.
I received a million-lira investment loan from a public bank at a 10 percent interest rate.
The bank is sharp, of course; it didn't send the loan to my account.
It asked for the invoice of the raw material I would buy for the production I was going to do.
It made the payment directly to the company issuing the invoice.
Well, the bank is sharp, but aren't we?
I didn't take the goods from the company that issued the invoice; I asked them to sell them to someone else.
And in exchange for a small kickback, they returned my investment loan that the bank had sent them to me through the back door.
Now, I have deposited the loan I took at 10 percent interest back into another public bank at 60 percent interest.
I have postponed the production business to an indefinite date.
However, if I had produced; I earned 10 times more from interest without lifting a finger than I would have earned after deducting worker salaries, taxes, and other expenses.
Well, why should I vote for anyone else?
As long as we continue to kill the stream's bird with the stream's stone, it seems unlikely that we will emerge from the crisis spiral.
