I was born in Trabzon.
I also finished university at the KTU Department of Civil Engineering.
My anatomical and mental algorithm was shaped in Faroz.
Maşatlık, Arafilboyu, Kavakmeydan, Erdoğdu, Polita.
I carry an indelible code from all of them.
Then, off to America, Eskişehir, Istanbul.
Years ago, I was an assistant professor at Anadolu University.
Since my roommate was from the faculty of literature, I had friendships with professors in the faculty of literature just as much as in the faculty of engineering.
He would hear about the gossip in the faculty of literature from me, and I would hear about the gossip in engineering from my roommate.
Around 2004, we joined tables at a restaurant where I happened to meet friends from the faculty of literature.
When the conversation got quite deep, historical topics of the republic, which I didn't know much about but which the friends from the faculty of literature knew day by day, came to the agenda.
As I said, I didn't know much about the first constitution, the second one, or the May 27th coup back then.
The friends at the table, God bless them, were fully in command of the topics.
From the War of Independence to the September 12th Coup, there was nothing they didn't know.
Regarding the May 27th Coup, they knew both Colonel Fethi Gürcan and Captain Cemil on the Yukarı Ayrancı slope who resisted surrendering, which I had heard for the first time in my life.
They said, "He was Circassian," about Fethi Gürcan, which, to me, was a time when everyone was just Turkish.
May God grant safety; thanks to the modern-looking German BND and its derivatives in suits and bow ties on television, we are going to be divided into forty ethnic pieces.
Anyway, I was listening without reacting much, and I was eating myself up inside for being so ignorant.
Then, when the subject came to Atatürk and insults bordering on profanity against both Atatürk and the Republic of Turkey began, my friends say that perhaps due to the buzz in my head, I suddenly stood up and said, "Are you enemies of the regime, you jerks?"
I don't remember it very well.
Afterward, these friends, who were later dismissed from public service due to their PKK signature, would mock me by saying, "The enemy of the regime has arrived," whenever they saw me in the cafeteria or the rectorate building.
In 2009, while sitting in the laboratory, we were both watching television and drinking tea.
While the Ergenekon wave operations were ongoing, the news was reporting that İlker Başbuğ had been arrested at the Beşiktaş Courthouse.
Even though I lacked political consciousness and knowledge, I said that Ergenekon was the reason for the existence of the Turks and that the prosecutors who made the arrests were F-type (FETÖ members).
Then, when I said that Fethullah was not from Erzurum, but was a descendant of an anti-Turkish Armenian priest who came from an Armenian village during the Armenian deportation, the film snapped.
A professor, who later became a major confessor, tried to push me while grabbing my throat, saying, "Apologize immediately," because of how I could insult Fethullah.
Those who intervened barely managed to stop the F-type professor.
Although his record says "banned from the profession," he is still on duty.
In short, children raised with the Trabzon code can become anything, but they cannot become spies.
