No matter what you give them, it is not enough; they want more. What do they want? More authority, more resources, an unquestionable, irresistible, unchallengeable authority, and unlimited power.
The 1982 Constitution, consisting of 177 articles, has been tampered with 21 times, and 96 of its articles have been amended. They transitioned to the presidential system they wanted so much, claiming it would make Turkey soar. But they are still unhappy, still unsatisfied.
They have no concrete answer to the question of which articles they want to change. They brush the question aside with vague rhetoric. They claim that no matter how many changes are made, it is impossible to cleanse the 1982 Constitution of the remnants of the coup that have seeped into its spirit.
They have grown up in a climate alien to concepts such as the individual, critical reason, free thought, law, secularism, democracy, and judicial independence. They are against military coups, but they have no objection to a 'clog' coup. Their utopia is an 'ummah' instead of a citizenry, a follower who obeys the master unconditionally instead of a free individual, and subjects trapped in medieval sociology instead of a civilized society. They live in the present with their physical existence, but in the past with their state of mind.
At the root of the problem lies an intellectual and emotional objection to October 29, 1923. October 29, 1923, reminds them of the liquidation of the caliphate and the sultanate—that is, the political/religious/sociological model of their ideals. October 29, 1923, represents the 'other,' the antithesis, and the model of heresy for the Neo-Ottoman perception.
They need a 'Civil Constitution' (!) as the legal basis, legal armor, and legal weapon for a final and definitive reckoning with the Turkish revolution and Turkish modernization.
The 'Civil Constitution,' which they have been unable to turn into a social demand, unable to put on the public agenda, and unable to realize so far, is kept on the agenda to provide legal legitimacy for the planned 'clog' coup.
They see that the core coalition—which is anti-unitary state, separatist, and fundamentalist—cannot provide the sufficient numbers for a coup masked as 'civil.' For this reason, they want to expand the anti-Republic coalition with the 'it's not enough but yes' crowd, the 'wise men,' and the left infected with an ethnic virus.
They know very well that if the CHP is intimidated by accusations of single-party era practices, supporting coups, status quo bias, opposition to a 'Civil Constitution,' etc., and is either included in the coalition or forced into passive support, there will be no obstacles left in front of the 'clog' coup.
In their hearts, they desire an 'Edict' that will pave the way for a 'clog' dictatorship; on their tongues, they carry the 'Civil Constitution,' which they present as a panacea for every ill, like a cure-all from a legendary physician!
In the coming period, the Turkish Nation will answer the question: The 'Clog' Constitution or the Rule of Law?
