Watching the news is disheartening. Workers are struggling, retirees are miserable, a group has been created called political prisoners, the judiciary does not comply with the decisions of higher courts, and categorical investigations are being conducted as if the only municipalities committing irregularities belong to the CHP. Authorities that refuse to grant permission for investigations into hospitals destroyed in the earthquake are rejecting them by perceiving themselves as judicial bodies, as if the public authority denying the permit were the final decision-making body! As I approach the final years of my life, I have never witnessed such treatment and procedures being applied so recklessly in any period, which I watch with astonishment and sadness. If I call everything that is happening a political blindness, my mind cannot grasp it; if I call it a social atrophy, I cannot understand how the public remains a spectator to events that unfold so openly! I think we are experiencing a complete social eclipse of reason. Sometimes I wonder, could electronic stunners have been placed all around us, because such a deep slumber of negligence cannot be understood in any other way.
Whose work is this state of social lethargy, and who does it serve? We must address this question in two contexts. First, as global capitalism becomes more constrained every day, countries are regressing inward and rapidly sliding toward dictatorial and fascist regimes. We cannot explain this shift solely by the mentality of the political cadres who seize power or by the perception of effective propaganda. This shift is a reflection of the countries' infrastructure, social mentality, and their changes in politics. When this is the case, we must reduce the analysis from superstructure political cadres to infrastructure social structures, where things become even more complex. Moreover, most of these countries have developed and highly educated social structures. As a typical example, risking the objection of some of my dear friends, I can say that this is what formed the basis for Trump's seizure of power in the US. Of course, the American public is behind the European public in terms of general culture and the perspective of knowing and viewing the world. But wait, don't we observe that European countries, albeit lagging slightly behind, are gradually moving in the same lane! Didn't famous European country leaders raise their fingers like elementary school students in front of Trump to ask for permission to speak? Let us recall a symmetry of this shameful meeting, the meeting Trump held with the world billionaires who dominate the digital technology of our age. In your opinion, which group was sitting, or even speaking, more confidently in front of Trump? Do you think the secret lies here!
As technology advances, reminiscent of our past, like monkeys, we are becoming—or rather, being made—to worship abstract worldly gods in the background through concrete images and sounds placed before us. The concrete facts placed before us draw us in so much, even pull us in, that we cannot let go of this toy even while walking down the street, at the risk of bumping into others or falling. Please, look at people in any vehicle; you will see that more than eighty percent of them are performing their duty of worshiping their god in their own world, indifferent to their surroundings, with the electronic rosary in their hands. My God, what kind of holistic coverage is this that it exhibits an incredible success in taking people with it, even drawing them in, everywhere and under any condition? People performing their divine duty in a state of ecstasy, even deeper than a sacred worship, continue their lives without understanding the deep loneliness they are pushed into. Yes, people pushed into loneliness with a tool of worship placed in their hands in a huge society can no longer come together in the direction of a social purpose or goal. Such a state of terrible, deep social loneliness can provide politicians with incredible room for maneuver. Because no irregularity or injustice that does not touch the individual can be a problem for the isolated person. If we look at the event from the opposite side, a person who is subjected to irregularity or injustice remains alone with their problems because they cannot see anyone by their side, and they struggle to fight alone.
With the incredible toy of the age, individuals are not only being isolated but also commodified. The modern toy that is not dropped from hands like a rosary is not that innocent. That seemingly innocent toy also captures the human brain in two ways. First, the toy, which is bought for thousands, creates a wide social environment and is used for the transmission of information from the center and/or covert management orders in a way that one does not even notice. It is this process that simultaneously commodifies people with the modern toy. The commodified human turns into an individual who receives commands and shapes their system of thought and action accordingly.
In this case, the isolated and commodified human becomes ready and waiting for every order, like a lead soldier. What did neoliberalism say? Everyone is an individual. Yes, everyone is an individual, what a pride-inducing description, isn't it! It looks like that, but this innocently appearing command also plays the leading role in de-organizing people.
Isn't it a beautiful project? By making people pay for it themselves, both the large digital firms acting as agents are enriched, individuals are happily abstracted from society and isolated under deep anesthesia, and they are turned into personality-less and dough-like brains ready to receive commands by being commodified. Beyond this, isn't this process an unmissable opportunity for the country's politicians and global imperialism? What do you think!
