The public's struggle for livelihood and elections!

Turkey's fundamental problem is ensuring justice in distribution, just as much as increasing the quality and productivity of production in the economy. For we cannot expect any “good” from production and productivity that is not shared fairly. The opposition that has been rising recently had also begun to focus on the emphasis on justice in distribution. However, the division of the main opposition into two parts with a decision of “absolute nullity” (absolute invalidity) will diminish this emphasis.

So, who benefits the most from this?

Companies looking for cheap labor, or the broad masses of the people?

When you walk through the Kadıköy bazaar, you can easily see that both are problematic, but the public's struggle is something else entirely. In other words, as of the end of 2025, since the lowest 20 percent of the population by income has to allocate 68 percent of their wages to basic expenses such as rent, housing, and food, the situation is more difficult for them than for property owners and capital, and very difficult at that. (TUIK, June 2 household expenditures.)

The struggle of the people, who make up the vast majority of the working class, does not end there. For there to be hope for the future, it is essential that alternatives to current policies are formed and that the opposition acts with a loud, unified voice; however, the opposition encountered a legal absurdity there called “nullity.” Thus, the largest party branch of the opposition was split in two. The signs of what has been happening since May 30 had actually been given beforehand. It would not be an exaggeration to comment that this was expected in the summer and that the law was instrumentalized.

Essentially, I am not angry at “Freudian” personalities like KK or LS, who are victims of social democracy's “obsession with seats” and who have wasted (and continue to waste) the votes of the masses. I am content with reminding them that the issue is connected to the problem of the secular republic and freedoms, beyond the issue of the chairmanship.

On one hand, there is the struggle of the working segments who cannot keep up with inflation, which cannot be brought below 30 percent, and broad-based unemployment, especially the rise in prices of basic goods and services such as housing, transportation, and food; on the other hand, the crisis brought about by the deep stagnation trend in the economy, as understood from the low growth figures (0.2% increase in the 2nd quarter of 2026 compared to the previous quarter)... The loss of the former glory of Germany, the external world partner, and the problems of productivity and employment decline stemming from its inability to compete against China...

THE FRAGMENTED STRUCTURE OF THE MAIN OPPOSITION

In the meantime, let us discuss on the basis of material foundations who and whose interests are served by the fragmented structure of the main opposition party (founded by Atatürk) on the agenda. In Turkey, again according to TUIK, about half of the total consumption expenditures are made by the top 20 percent of the population.

Think about it, this means that nearly 15-20 million people spend as much as 70-75 million people consume.

Of course, since this wealthy class does not have a problem with housing and food consumption, they can easily increase their transportation expenses with domestic and international trips while spending excessively on durable consumer goods, clothing, and footwear. They send their children to schools that are now very expensive, which the middle class could never afford. They have room to maneuver with unlimited limits on health expenditures. They never miss the opportunity to add property to the property they own, and they can even multiply their wealth by raising rents above inflation in the residences and workplaces they rent out. At this stage, they also secretly support a “nullity” decision that will eliminate their hesitations about increasing surplus value through laborers in factories, workplaces, and large agricultural areas. Of course, they don't show it...

I have not come across any statement from capital organizations such as TÜSİAD or MÜSİAD, and I suppose we won't come across one at this rate. Because these friends do not live in another world, they just don't show what “suits their interests”...

It is the working class that suffers again, their voices are stifled, and the “setting” of democracy is disrupted...

What does it matter to capital! On the contrary, I seem to hear their “silent screams.”

THE PUBLIC'S INTUITIONS AND WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE

So what can be done? Of course, in this much information pollution, I think the working class will choose who is truly on their side, even if it takes some time. I would say to those who use media opportunities to the fullest and instrumentalize the law in this election: do not ignore the public's intuitions. Moving elections forward or delaying them does not mean the public “forgets” what they have experienced. Human memory may falter, but it does not forget when it faces its own reality...

These realities constantly return to the working class as a matter of existence and non-existence.

The ways to change this problem are not even discussed enough. For example, the fact that more interest is paid in the budget than the SGK deficits, and that this interest goes into the pockets of rentiers, takes up very little space in the columns. While Corporate Tax rates are falling, even though it is known that the working class has a significant share in the tax system, that is not even touched.

It is thought that “asset peace,” with a political aid favor, and the “swap line” expected to come with the US Treasury, whose equivalent is not fully understood, will be a remedy for the economy.

No!..

If the issue were just money, productivity would have increased during periods when the Central Bank made a lot of profit. Not only did that not happen, but those profits melted away within the treasury. Moreover, the Central Bank is now making a loss (to keep the exchange rate stable) and is already a burden on the treasury...

One of the reasons for inflation is the financialization of the system with a weak institutional structure in these areas... For some reason, it is forgotten that the money coming with asset peace could cause inflation after a while..

It is unknown which wound the money-capital expected from asset peace will be a remedy for in this environment, but it is clear that it will not go to production and the long term. Why? In a place where institutional mechanisms have been weakened, the space for democracy has been narrowed, and uncertainty is at its peak, what else would you expect from minds that see a “swap line” as a windpipe?

In an environment where industry is regressing, growth figures can essentially only be produced through the spending of the rich, construction, and services, and the public's struggle for livelihood is multiplied by inflation, economists and politicians have as much work to do as lawyers. In my opinion, it is very important to put the development dynamics of society back on the table and to expose the inequality in the distribution of surplus value. The public will make the decision, but with correct information and a correct economy... Just as it is important to learn from the mistakes of socialism, it is important for countries that have capitalized late and have democracy problems to take another look at Latin America's developmentalist approaches and to benefit from the suggestions of the Dependency School in terms of showing the way to those who suffer the hardships of capitalism..
