Why Aziz Yıldırım for the 2026 election?

Fenerbahçe is not just a sports club. It is one of Turkey’s largest civil society movements and a shared sense of belonging for millions. It is not enough for the person who takes the helm of such an organization to simply possess economic power; they must know how to manage crises, understand the spirit of the community, and have the character to take responsibility when necessary. This is precisely the fundamental issue that needs to be discussed during the 2026 election process: Does Fenerbahçe need strong leadership once again today?

The answer to this question also reveals why Aziz Yıldırım should be president again.

Aziz Yıldırım’s name was not written into Fenerbahçe’s history with trophies alone. His tenure was a period when the club grew institutionally, became a brand in Europe, and transformed into an organization that was feared in sporting terms. The championships won by the Fenerbahçe football team between 1998 and 2018, the successes in the European semi-finals and Champions League quarter-finals, the EuroLeague victory in basketball, and world-class achievements in volleyball represented a period when the club held sway not only in Turkey but also in Europe.

Today, the community’s biggest problem is not just failure; it is a loss of identity. The bond between the stands and the management has weakened, and the “club destined to win” psychology that Fenerbahçe possessed for years has eroded. That is why Aziz Yıldırım’s return is not just a presidential candidacy, but also a claim to return the club to its former reflexes.

This determination is clearly visible in the statements Yıldırım has made during the 2026 election process. His words, “Fenerbahçe has an obligation to be the champion,” represent a management approach that does not shy away from setting targets. In modern football, fans no longer just want patience; they want to see a vision. Aziz Yıldırım is one of the rare figures who can once again offer the community grand goals.

Of course, there are criticisms. His age, his stern management style, and the controversies of his past tenure are frequently brought up. However, great clubs sometimes rise not through emotional projects, but through strong characters. Considering the sporting fractures Fenerbahçe has experienced in recent years, it is not surprising that the community is turning toward a leader capable of re-establishing authority.

Moreover, Aziz Yıldırım’s most important advantage is that he knows Fenerbahçe from the inside. He is a name who knows the club’s economic structure, the psychology of the fans, the media pressure, and the dynamics of sporting competition. Especially while other candidates’ “promising projects” are being discussed during the election process, the biggest trump card in Aziz Yıldırım’s hand is experience. Because today, Fenerbahçe needs a strong organization that will succeed in getting back on its feet rather than experimental projects. It is true that there is a segment saying Fenerbahçe needs new names. However, I do not see any name other than Aziz Yıldırım who could get Fenerbahçe back on its feet in this process. Do not let star transfers deceive you; who came to Fenerbahçe in the past, and these were all done during the Aziz Yıldırım era. If Fenerbahçe is at this point today regarding amateur branches, club culture, and facilities, every fan owes a debt of gratitude to President Aziz. If we touch upon the July 3rd conspiracy process, no one could have overcome it anyway. During the treacherous conspiracy process, which I know closely thanks to my late grandfather, Lawyer Turan Karakaş, Aziz Yıldırım and his management never took a step back; once again, thanks to Mr. Şekip Mosturoğlu, İlhan Ekşioğlu, and the names who resisted during this process.

Throughout history, Fenerbahçe fans have loved leaders who fight. That is why Aziz Yıldırım’s candidacy is not just an election move; it is the re-assertion of the claim that “Fenerbahçe will play for the top again.”

Perhaps not everyone loves him. Perhaps not everyone approves of his methods. But it is hard to deny this fact: When Aziz Yıldırım was there, Fenerbahçe’s weight was felt. And let no one doubt that in the 2026 elections, Aziz Yıldırım will bring that spirit back.
