On social media, in friendly circles, in consultations with our colleagues, and especially in the discourse of citizens who are not CHP members but are on the opposition front, there is a very clear picture. Adding my own observations, I must make this assessment clearly: The belief that the CHP is dampening the struggle instead of growing and strengthening it in this climate of pressure..
Turkey is going through a very serious, exhausting, and now long-drawn-out kind of turbulence. Let's give credit where credit is due; everyone can see that CHP leader Özgür Özel and his team have been working at an intense, uninterrupted pace since March 19. Countless rallies, endless parliamentary group meetings, major political tensions, and fights... This struggle is no small effort; we are aware that this is a truly exhausting process from a human perspective.
Before moving on to the criticism, it is worth adding a caveat: We know how intolerant CHP voters can sometimes be toward criticism, and how even the slightest dissenting voice can be met with incredible reactions. However, I don't think I need to remind you again that 12punto is an independent media outlet, that it has a pluralistic structure, and that we objectively follow political processes and convey them to our readers through our writers who hold different views.
Let's come to that criticism directed at the Özgür Özel administration...
In such a deadly and critical time interval that we are going through, playing "My Brave Lion" to the massive crowds that gather and trying to create a visual feast with phone lights is now drawing backlash from the public. I am not saying this. A simple tour of social media is enough to observe the reaction. To put it more clearly and plainly; citizens who are tired of struggling, whose shoulders slump after being fed with hope only to be thrown back into a vortex of despair, no longer want symbolic actions, but a real roadmap for struggle.
Some say "let's boycott," others say "let's organize a march," but the common demand is one: "Give us a real action plan"...
Because actions that last for days and do not reach a concrete goal tire out society. Moreover, people struggling with the economic crisis and the hardships of life no longer have the financial means or the physical strength to run from one rally to another. In this deep poverty where even transportation costs are calculated, resistance unfortunately turns into inaction. A feeling of "I showed my reaction, I did something" is created with a few tweets posted on social media, but we all know that reality does not progress at that keyboard.
In light of this picture, I offer clear advice to the CHP administration, which is already grappling with major problems: A line of resistance and struggle must be established that is very fast, clearly defined, and whose impact is beyond debate. There is no time left to lose; the citizens' expectation is very clear, they are saying, "Let's actually do something now."
I do not underestimate any political effort, but it is also clear that nothing can be achieved with the current "visual" methods. So, let's end the article with that critical question we will direct to Mr. Özgür Özel:
Mr. Özel, you said, "We will stop life if necessary." What exactly is this, and what will be done?
