One day later…

16-year-old Hira Aygar was also murdered with a firearm in Mersin.

In two days, two young girls were killed with firearms and torn from life.

While all of Turkey should be standing up and ministers should be resigning, there is a great silence and normalization. It is as if the murder of two young girls with firearms were a normal situation, consistent with the ordinary flow of life…

It is not even being discussed.

Those who govern the state boast about catching the murderer. However, what should happen is the prevention of these murders.

Some immoral individuals have lost their conscience to the point of blaming 15-16-year-old girls.

So, who is responsible?

According to open sources, 421 femicides were committed in Turkey in 2024. In 228 of these murders, women were torn from life with firearms.

I want to ask the Minister of Interior: How are firearms so easily accessible in Turkey?

According to reliable sources, there are over 30 million unlicensed firearms in Turkey.

30 million!

An incredible number…

So, what is the Ministry of Interior and the government doing?

If they are not responsible for the murders, individual armament, and criminal organizations, then who is?

How will they combat illegal armament and the aggression of armed killers?

The murder of young girls cannot be brushed off as a “lover’s quarrel.” All segments of society must know that femicides are political. Male-dominated and reactionary impositions are the root cause of these deaths.

And just as the Women’s Solidarity Committees have asked, I, as a journalist and a citizen, am asking the Ministry of Interior: Are you going to do something now? How will you combat unlicensed firearms and criminal organizations?
