The Mustafa Sarıgül incident and the stance of the CHP

Turkey was shaken a few days ago by a new tape scandal.

Explicit images, alleged to belong to Mustafa Sarıgül—who has transformed into a social media phenomenon alongside his political identity—were leaked.

The incident can be evaluated from several different angles.

First and foremost, we continue to see that the culture of blackmail, threats, and setups remains an effective method within Turkey's borders.

Threats via audio recordings, data collection, and identity-based character assassination through perception operations are common not only in politics but in other fields as well...

We all know that individuals who suffer from significant moral deficiencies maintain their assets and positions through these methods, clinging to people and institutions like ticks.

While it is alleged that a deep-seated grudge, hostility, or a financial dispute lies behind the images, Sarıgül claimed that he was facing an unprecedented level of baseness and treachery.

He even announced within hours that he had the video examined by the National Criminal Bureau and that the video was a montage.

Naturally, immediately following his statement, he filed a criminal complaint with the prosecutor's office accompanied by this report.

The process from here on is very important.

The prosecutor's office will, of course, request an expert investigation to determine whether the images are fabricated or real.

It is unknown when the result will emerge. Furthermore, personal preferences in the realm of private life are of no concern to anyone.

However...

There is no need to discuss how Turkish societal values view these images, allegations, etc.

Even the stray cats on the street know that it is impossible to engage in politics in Turkey with this level of suspicion and damage to one's reputation.

The truly important issue is the stance of the Republican People's Party (CHP) leadership.

While the images were spreading and being watched at full speed on social media, the leadership of the Republican People's Party, of which Sarıgül is an Erzincan deputy, was likely in a state of shock.

And they were watching the developments, unsure of what to do.

According to information I personally obtained from effective sources within the CHP, the matter was the most important agenda item of the Central Executive Board (MYK) meeting and was definitively evaluated.

We can foresee that no statement was made after the MYK meeting, taking various factors into consideration.

If there is a report that Sarıgül says he took to the prosecutor's office and which reveals that the images are a montage, the CHP should have strongly stood by its deputy.

If there were doubts, a resignation process should have been initiated to prevent the party from being harmed.

Above all, Sarıgül himself should have resigned so that the party he belongs to would not be tarnished. Once the legal process and investigations into the extremely disturbing leaked images are completed, if they are indeed a montage as he stated, he could have continued his political journey as he wished.
