The usurpation of will and the normalization of darkness

The AKP government no longer even feels the need to hide the 'usurpation of will' order it has established. The judiciary, which has been systematically brought under control for many years, has now become the most useful tool for political agendas.

Mayors elected by the vast majority of citizens are being removed from office through legal means; local governments are being besieged one by one. We all witnessed the latest example of this in Bursa.

In foreign policy, a completely different dilemma is being experienced. On one hand, there is "anti-imperialist" rhetoric, and on the other, a realpolitik that leans on the US, Trump, and even indirectly on Israel... The continuation of trade with Israel in one way or another, acting in line with imperialist interests targeting the Middle East, and the "friendship" relations established with actors who have a share in the destruction of Gaza, unmask the government.

This mindset, which sees every strategy as permissible for its own survival, both ignores the public's vote and fortifies its regime of oppression with each passing day.

A PERIOD OF DE-DEMOCRATIZATION WHERE DEMOCRACY IS SUSPENDED

The point we have reached is a process of "de-democratization." Even if ballot boxes are set up now, election security is a source of deep suspicion for a large segment of society. Even the simplest citizen has a preconceived notion that the government will do whatever it takes to protect its seat. The fact that society is being dragged into a collective paranoia is the most concrete proof that neither democracy nor a shred of scientific state reason remains.

The government may be making "successful" moves by using all the resources and power of the state in line with its own interests; however, it is as clear as day that these moves are not for the benefit of the public or the Turkish nation.

What is truly frightening is that the indifference in society is spreading like a virus. We are just watching in great despair. On one side are those chasing their small interests and conformist spaces, and on the other are those crushed between the gears of injustice... One must not forget: Everyone who does not take responsibility for democracy, law, and justice today will sooner or later have to pay the price for this dark process.

The regime of oppression now knows no bounds. From drug operations targeting celebrities to the detention of comedians, singers, and astrologers; from the imprisonment of journalists who write the truth without indictments to the conspiracies set up against mayors and opposition politicians, we wake up to a new dawn every day. The operations carried out against the Üsküdar Municipality and the fake news served by the pro-government media are just pieces of this pitch-black picture.

THE NECESSITY OF STRUGGLE FOR LIGHT

This picture should not lead us to despair; on the contrary, it should remind us once again how vital justice is. A bright future is only possible by keeping the intellectual and legal struggle against this oppressive order alive. In this period when attempts are made to cover up the truth, we must not remain silent, but rather say "justice" with a louder voice than ever before.

No matter how deep the darkness, a will that does not surrender to it will surely find a way out.
