I don't know if we are aware... Is the root cause of the problem the economic depression linked to scientific data and mismanagement, or is it immorality? The existence of the economic crisis and the failure of the government are obvious. There is no doubt about that. However, it is impossible to know exactly what percentage of our lives becoming difficult is due to the self-interest and opportunism of society.
Water... Even this vital concept has become one of the basic needs that are difficult for people with low purchasing power to access.
A small bottle of water is sold for between 10 and 15 TL.
On hot summer days, putting a small bottle of water to our lips and drinking it to our heart's content will turn into a cost that depends on the neighborhood we are in.
If you are with your spouse or child, meaning there are three of you, and you say, "Let's just walk around Eminönü aimlessly, looking left and right," and you drink one bottle of water each throughout the day, the money you will pay is 90 TL.
We are in difficult days where a small slice of cake is 35 TL and a simit is 15 TL.
We are in a crisis process where the poor's escape option, the lahmacun-ayran duo, is sold for 160 TL and everyone defends themselves with valid justifications.
And it is clear that food inflation will continue to land its ruthless blows. People cannot get married, cannot feed their children, cannot renew their clothes.
A new era has begun. A new era where those who cannot cope with fuel expenses provide transportation by motorcycle, where we are forced to eat rice and bulgur brought from various countries of the world, where our food has become tasteless, where the best of the fruits and vegetables are sent to Germany, Russia, and England, while we are fed the rotten leftovers, and where we feel we are becoming more worthless with each passing day.
What is painful is our lack of reaction towards those responsible for this.
Just like that, we are moving with silent steps on the road to darkness. It is as if we are burdened with the hopelessness of patients who have resigned themselves to death and for whom treatment is not possible.
Young people who commit suicide and fathers who have mental breakdowns cannot go beyond being news agency reports.
Those who live like Croesus with the incredible opportunities provided by the government do not care about these painful truths. And they never will. They will continue to spend the public's money recklessly, to get rich, and to make devilish plans to create new opportunities.
And some will continue to say, "Oh, what kind of poverty is this, everywhere is full of cars, shopping malls are packed."
We must raise awareness, we must cry out. The housing problem, the nutrition problem, the problem of not being able to meet the most basic needs continue to break the public's back. We must defend a humane life.
