The gentleman has recently come to the fore with two fatwas.

First, he claimed that those who produce, transport, sell, and serve alcoholic beverages are "cursed."

Then he made another statement and decreed, "Getting a job through nepotism is not pleasant, but if one has been hired through nepotism, the earnings are lawful!"

I will not even discuss the second one. Because getting a job through nepotism is stealing the rights of others. Any income obtained by violating the rights of others is forbidden not only in Islam but in all religions!

Let's come to the first fatwa…

What is it; producing, transporting, selling, and serving alcoholic beverages is forbidden.

Those who do these jobs are "cursed"!

His Excellency participated in the "Let's Ask Diyanet" program on Diyanet TV… A viewer asked, "If we work in a hotel or market where alcohol is sold, would there be a problem with the salary we receive?"

He explained, "Our Prophet curses not only the one who drinks alcohol, but also the one who produces it, the one who has it produced, the one who transports it, the one who serves it, the one who has it transported for themselves, the one who has it served, and even the one who evaluates its money and benefits from its money. A person working in such an establishment also benefits from alcohol revenue in some way. Even if they don't want to, and even if it's not direct, they are involved in this business."

He then suggested that people working in places with alcohol who have nothing to do with alcohol should look for new jobs…

Well; if those who benefit from the money of alcohol-related businesses are cursed…

Does the state, which collects "taxes" from all these businesses, have no sin at all?

If you are a man of religion with integrity and you believe what you say, then you should stand before those who govern the state and say, "I am not taking any salary from you."

You should reject every salary the state gives you!

Because… The state collects the salaries it pays to you and your colleagues through taxes.

Let me give you the figures:

The Special Consumption Tax (ÖTV) holds an important place among the taxes collected in our country.

According to the data of the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, 1.4 trillion liras of revenue is expected from the ÖTV this year.

Now hold on tight, brother Bozkurt:

Within this, the ÖTV obtained solely from the sale of alcoholic beverages is 107.2 billion liras…

Add to this figure the taxes collected from the incomes of those you listed—the producers, transporters, sellers, and servers; the total comes to at least 140 billion liras…

That is 10 liras out of every 100 liras of tax collected in our country!

And rest assured; a significant portion of this money is paid to you people as salaries!

Now I ask you:

Are you not cursed for receiving a salary thanks to the same money, while those working in those jobs are?

Don't you need to look for another job too?

The state collects taxes from alcohol, prostitution, and legal gambling!

All of these are businesses that are not viewed favorably by our religion!

In this case, shouldn't a true man of religion say, "I do not want to be cursed by taking a share of this dirty money" and resign from his position at the Presidency of Religious Affairs immediately?

According to the latest data from the Presidency of Religious Affairs announced in July 2023, 211,164 people work in the institution.

After this statement by İdris Bozkurt, they have all fallen into a "cursed" status.

If they want to get rid of this situation, they should all resign as of today…

They should provide their income from donations made by mosque congregations from earnings obtained through legitimate work.

If they cannot do this…
