President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke at the United Nations General Assembly yesterday. He dedicated almost his entire speech to Gaza and the problems surrounding Turkey.

However, he did not even mention a single one of Turkey's own international problems!

For instance, he did not touch upon the Syrians, Afghans, and Africans whose numbers have grown enough to change our country's demographic structure…

He lashed out at murderous Israel; he called for the protection of Palestine and Lebanon.

He drew attention to the dangers caused by the Ukraine-Russia War.

Fair enough, but…

He did not complain about the ski-masked Greek soldiers who set foot on our territory just a few hours before he took the UN podium.

He did not tell the world about this violation, which our neighbor has dared to commit for the first time in 105 years!

He did not say, “This is a scandal.”

Furthermore, he did not even mention Greece's occupation of nearly twenty islands that belong to us, right under our noses.

He did not say, “If this occupation continues and the UN continues to remain a spectator, we will resort to military methods if necessary to exercise our sovereign rights over our territory”…

He could not say it!

He attacked the so-called imperialist states by repeatedly reciting the phrase “The world is bigger than five,” which has become tiresome.

But he could not even list the names of those five countries!

Which countries are responsible for the civil war in Syria?

The USA…

The UK…

Russia…

And to some extent, other EU countries!

So, what is the total number of Syrian refugees who have gone to these countries since the civil war broke out?

Not even a tenth of those in our country!

Because we agreed to become a buffer state for pennies!

But our President does not explain this at the UN!

He cannot say, “You deceived us and got us into deep trouble.”

As if it would do any good, he is complaining about the murderers of the Palestinian people to those very same murderers…

I closed my eyes for a moment while listening to Recep Tayyip Erdoğan speak at the United Nations General Assembly yesterday. It was absolutely impossible for someone who did not know him to guess that the person speaking was the President of the Republic of Turkey.

The orator yesterday could have been the UN Secretary-General at best.

Because he touched upon every problem in the world; he just didn't mention Turkey once.

At the very least, if he had explained that the visa problem our citizens have been experiencing for years has turned into torture and that this is a human rights violation, I would have been satisfied with even that.

I would have said, “Good for him!”

But… He didn't.

After the speech ended, I listened to the commentary on channels like CNN Türk, NTV, and Habertürk.

Oh, what they said!

According to them, he challenged the world…

He put the “big five” in their place…

He blew Israel's mind…

He once again declared to the world that Turkey is the most important actor in the region…

Blah, blah, blah!

Not a single one of the dozens of commentators I listened to throughout the night told the truth.

None of them could say, “The President was just beating around the bush.”

The President of the Republic of Turkey addressed the UN General Assembly yesterday.

If I were Palestinian, I would have been very moved.

If I were Iraqi, I would have gone and hugged him.

If I were Ukrainian, I would have said, “Good for him.”

But I am Turkish…

And this speech did not include the injustices done to us, the troubles brought upon us by other countries viewing Turkey as a kind of “migrant prevention zone,” or the insolence of Greece!

Now, as a retired Turkish citizen condemned to the poverty line, what else should I do but calculate the gains and losses of the President's visit to the USA?

The loss is clear:

Plane-loads of freeloaders…

Accommodations, food, drinks…

Bills sent to the palace…

Gain:

Zero!

Well then; what did I get out of this?
