‘Amnesty’ is the wrong word… The right one should be ‘peace’!

CHP’s new Chairman Özgür Özel has given strict instructions to provincial chairs to increase the number of party members.

He did not stop there; at yesterday’s group meeting, he called on those who had left the party for various reasons, saying, “Come home to the father’s house, let us grow stronger.”

This call shows that an amnesty for those previously expelled from the party for various reasons is only a matter of time!

*

In my opinion, this call is not enough.

Because there are some names who were forced to resign, were marginalized, or were expelled from the party due to their “Atatürkist stances and actions,” and they would never accept being “pardoned”…

For example, Süheyl Batum, who once served as CHP Deputy Chairman and Secretary General…

Former Deputy Group Chairman Emine Ülker Tarhan…

Former Uşak MP Dilek Akagün Yılmaz…

Former İzmir MP Birgül Ayman Güler

Former Istanbul MP Nur Serter

Former Adana MP Ümit Özgümüş…

What will happen to their situation?

Will these valuable politicians, who said that the CHP shifted to the right under the Kılıçdaroğlu administration and who could not accept the nomination of Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu for the presidency—and who left or were expelled from the party for this reason—be brought back into the party?

Would these names accept an “insult” like being “pardoned”?

If Özgür Özel wants to see the disgruntled back in the “father’s house,” then instead of an “amnesty” model, he should use a “reconciliation” model… He should visit these names, each of whom held very important positions in the party in their time, one by one and persuade them to return to the CHP.

And in my opinion, he should definitely add Memleket Party Chairman Muharrem İnce to these names…

You might consider pardoning some names who put your party in a difficult position with their actions reflected in the public eye…

Those who made mullahs candidate nominees in exchange for money…

Those who pinned a CHP badge on a black chador…

And as if that were not enough, those who openly appeared on pro-government channels before the last elections to support the AKP…

For example, you might consider pardoning Mehmet Sevigen, a Deputy Chairman from the Baykal era, Mr. Özel…

But…

You “cannot pardon” the names above, who opposed the sectarian attitudes of the Kılıçdaroğlu administration and were even willing to remain outside of politics because of it.

You cannot put them in the same category as the Sevigens!

Attempting to pardon these long-suffering names would be just as wrong and shameful as their removal from the party.

*

What I am saying is…

If you are sincere in your call to reunite in the father’s house…

If you truly want to strengthen your party…

The ball is in your court…

*

Mr. Özgür Özel; do not forget that those who commit crimes are pardoned!

None of the principled, honest Atatürkists I listed above committed a “crime” for you to pardon…

If you are absolutely looking for someone to blame, look at the former administration that purged the Atatürkist cadres in the party…

If you are sincere in your call…

If you truly want to meet in the father’s house, think about what I have written!
