The MHP is such a party that wherever its leader goes, they follow him to the death.
No one can say the opposite of what Devlet Bahçeli says, nor can they look in the opposite direction of where he is looking.
If Devlet Bey were to accidentally say, "The world has four corners," they would all shout together:
"The Chief (Başbuğ) is right. We were taught wrong. The world has four corners..."
Some deputy chairmen even come out and threaten those who say the world is round:
"These are terrorists. These are traitors to the homeland. They want to divide the country. We will show them their day. We are writing down their names one by one, and when the time comes, we will hold them accountable."
However...
***
The young lieutenants who graduated from the Military Academies brought some MHP members and Bahçeli face-to-face for the first time with the oath they took, saying, "We are the soldiers of Mustafa Kemal."
MHP Deputy Chairman İsmail Özdemir supported the lieutenants without waiting for his Chairman to speak on the matter:
"Our young lieutenants are loyal to their laws, regulations, superiors, and commander-in-chief, and they are aware of their duties. These young people are not only the defenders of Turkey's struggle for survival but also the future of our global ideals under their honorable uniforms. We have full confidence in them. For this reason, no one should cause different paths and perceptions."
***
This statement by MHP Deputy Chairman Özdemir was also shared on the MHP's official account.
That wasn't enough; the party's media outlets, BengüTürk TV and Türkgün Newspaper, also stood by the lieutenants.
Türkgün's Chief Columnist and Devlet Bahçeli's Advisor Yıldıray Çiçek defended the lieutenants, saying, "There is nothing more natural than the Turkish soldier chanting the slogan 'We are the soldiers of Mustafa Kemal.' No one should succumb to the atmosphere that the bloodless and ignoble, who go into a frenzy upon hearing this slogan and engage in hostility toward Atatürk, are trying to create."
These views received support and likes from almost all MHP members.
***
And then what happened?
The MHP Chairman broke his silence on the matter and accused the lieutenants who took the oath of "exploiting the cherished memories and sacred works of Atatürk."
Referring to the oath taken by the lieutenants, he blurted out, "An oath other than the legal oath should not be covered up and hidden behind the name of the Great Atatürk. They must be held accountable for this."
***
One party, two diametrically opposed views...
The party's Deputy Chairman and its media outlets say one thing, while the Chairman says another...
Devlet Bey's advisor labels those who are uncomfortable with the Turkish soldier chanting 'We are the soldiers of Mustafa Kemal' as "bloodless and ignoble"; and suddenly, you find that his own chairman has fallen into the position of being "bloodless and ignoble."
***
Now, what should happen?
Everyone who supported the lieutenants, especially MHP Deputy Chairman İsmail Özdemir and Advisor Yıldıray Çiçek, must either resign or be expelled!
This disagreement should tear the party apart!
Or Devlet Bey should be forced to resign!
But you will see, none of this will happen.
All those words spoken will be swallowed back.
This "party of interests" will continue to be of one heart so that the AKP government, which provides them with their current order of prosperity, does not get harmed!
***
By the way...
A similar situation is happening in the AKP...
While some, especially AKP Spokesperson Ömer Çelik, defend the lieutenants, people like Yiğit Bulut insult them!
As for me, I congratulate the young lieutenants twice:
First, for taking that honorable oath and giving us hope...
And second, for splitting both parties right down the middle!
