A major crisis in Parliament!

Don't leave your news choices to an algorithm - decide for yourself what you read. Add 12punto to your preferred sources!

The Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Türkiye has seen many wars and crises in its 104-year history... It even made the decision to relocate to Kayseri when the Greek Army began pushing the borders of Ankara during the years of occupation.

But it has never seen a crisis "this brazen, this shameless."

It is such a crisis that you would never be able to guess it...

It is not about Devlet Bahçeli's proposal that "Apo should come and speak at the DEM Party's Parliamentary Group meeting," nor is it about the arrest of the Esenyurt Mayor...

It is not about the worsening poverty, the hunger threshold for a single-person household rising to 27 thousand liras, the explosion of inflation, or the prospect of the retirement age being raised to 75...

Don't waste your time guessing; if you haven't read the news I'm talking about somewhere, you would never know.

Come on, I won't tire you out; let me tell you!

As you know, the 2025 Consolidated Budget Bill is being discussed in the TBMM Planning and Budget Committee.

While the TBMM budget was being discussed, DEM Party deputies made a request and brought up the issue of providing food services for vegetarians and vegans in the restaurants and cafeterias within the Parliament.

They were apparently very aggrieved by this issue...

While everyone else was enjoying those delicious and dirt-cheap meals, the elegant ladies of the DEM Party were going hungry.

Because diet meals were not being served in the Parliamentary restaurants...

If the Parliamentary administration spent just a measly 20 million liras more, they would be able to eat cheap and healthy vegetarian and vegan meals...

The other deputies, who are at peace with their waistlines, did not show much interest in this problem that the DEM members brought to the agenda as if there were no other issues left in the country...

The motion was rejected by the votes of the AKP and MHP!

You know how people say "May God give them some sense" for situations like this... These are all ladies and gentlemen with more than enough sense and ideas... Therefore, they have no need for any sense or ideas that anyone, including God, might give.

In these days when the public is miserable from hunger, all they need is a sense of shame!

Because the moment some of them enter under that roof, their sense of shame vanishes.

With everything they could ever want at their fingertips...

With salaries of over a hundred thousand liras entering their pockets...

With consultants and secretaries lined up around them, they lose their sense of shame.

They turn into "the insatiable deputies of the hungry nobles."

A generous portion of beef roast, which you couldn't even get for 300 liras at a decent restaurant outside, is still only 42 liras in the Parliament restaurant...

Even when you eat until you are stuffed, the bill doesn't even reach 100 liras...

Furthermore, there are huge plates of tuna salad for 45 liras for the ladies of the DEM Party too...

But it's not enough; they insist on skimming another 20 million from the Parliament budget for their own diets.

What does the Parliament, which houses six hundred deputies and 5 thousand 763 employees, actually do today?

Does it pass laws?

It does, but it acts as a "notary" for the draft laws prepared at the Palace and brought before them; that's all!

Does it perform oversight?

Forget it... It takes guts to do that under the Palace regime!

So what do they do?

They pretend...

They talk a lot, they get into fistfights every now and then, but they don't even matter!

If you were to say, "They are useless, let's just close it down and save ourselves from all this expense," your conscience wouldn't allow it...

This is the Parliament founded by Atatürk and his friends... Moreover, if you close it, the true face of a democracy that only maintains its existence in form would be revealed...

***

In the end, we keep feeding all these people just so we can play the theater of "we are governed by democracy," even if it is just "pretending."

But as if it weren't enough that they keep getting fatter without doing any work and without being of any use, now these friends want vegetarian and vegan meals in the Parliament restaurant!

And we are the donkeys; we keep carrying these shameless, brazen people on our backs!

Now is the perfect time to recite a Tevfik Fikret poem, but...

They would call you an "influence agent" and throw you in jail... After all, we aren't even as free as we were 110 years ago!

It's better to just let them eat whatever they want!
