The Sharia-advocating President is trying to confuse people!

Don't leave your news choices to an algorithm - decide for yourself what you read. Add 12punto to your preferred sources!

President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke at his party's first parliamentary group meeting following the March 31 local elections. He used harsh language against Israel, which has turned Gaza into a bloodbath. He then stated, "Whatever the Kuvayi Milliye (National Forces) was in the national struggle, Hamas is exactly the same. We are, of course, aware that there is a price to pay for saying this."

Before delving into the subject, I must state: do not get hung up on the word "Sharia-advocating" I used in the headline and worry for me.

Because the Gentleman had already confessed to being a Sharia advocate by "declaring all opponents of Sharia as enemies of religion."

Therefore, rest assured, this is the only label he will not file a lawsuit over!

*

Let us come to his historical distortion regarding the claim that the Kuvayi Milliye and Hamas are the same:

ONE

Kuvayi Milliye: It is the name of a "people's movement" that emerged spontaneously through the resistance of people rebelling against enemy occupation, meaning "National Forces."

Hamas: Its Arabic name is Harakat al-Muqawama al-Islamiya, and its Turkish name is Islamic Resistance Movement. For it, the concepts of homeland and nation are not what is important; the Islamic religion is.

TWO

Kuvayi Milliye: It is based on volunteerism. It has no political ideology. Its sole purpose is to save the homeland from the enemy.

Hamas: It is not a popular movement formed by volunteers, but a religious political party. The party's high-level officials receive substantial salaries.

THREE

Kuvayi Milliye: It did not have advanced weapons, paid soldiers, or the economic power to sustain them. No one who claimed to be from the Kuvayi Milliye gained any material or moral benefit in return.

Hamas: It possesses advanced weapons and paid soldiers. It is known that it obtains the necessary financial resources from certain Islamic countries, primarily Turkey and Syria.

FOUR

Kuvayi Milliye: The citizens who joined this movement came from dozens of different ethnic backgrounds, believed in different religions, and belonged to different sects.

Hamas: It claims to fight only for Islam with those of Arab origin.

FIVE

Kuvayi Milliye: It did not carry out a single action against the civilian population. It did not harm a single civilian. It protected its lands from enemy soldiers.

Hamas: It attacks civilians, even if it is for the purpose of retaliation.

SIX

Kuvayi Milliye: After completing its mission, it joined the Turkish Armed Forces under the command of the Ankara Assembly.

Hamas: It seized political power and sidelined the Palestine Liberation Organization, which was the true resistance organization of the Palestinian people. In doing so, it turned the war in those lands from an issue of Palestinian occupation into a religious war, playing right into Israel's hands.

*

In other words, the Palestinian Resistance, which was once supported even by leftist organizations in Turkey through their own direct participation in the fighting, has absolutely nothing in common with the Islamic Resistance led by Hamas.

Therefore, seeing the Kuvayi Milliye, which is symbolized by the "shepherd's fires" lit entirely by the people, as "the same" as Hamas is either political blindness or one of the greatest political lies in history!

Let us come to Erdoğan's sentence: "We are, of course, aware that there is a price to pay for saying this."

He is right...

There will certainly be a political price for equating a religious organization with the national resistance movement that formed the core of the Republic of Turkey.

I hope we will experience and see that in the upcoming elections!
