We knew him as bad...

They say, “One should not speak ill of the dead”... Well, you can, my friend!

If the person who died was a good human being, then of course people will talk. The good deeds they did while alive are recounted, and they are spoken of with praise.

I also do not agree with those who say that this notion of “One should not speak ill of the dead” is a requirement of Islam.

On the contrary:

When a Muslim dies, the imam at the very head of the coffin asks for them to be “spoken of”:

“How did you know the deceased?”

Isn't this clearly saying, “Go ahead and speak. Tell us whatever you know”?

We don't hesitate to say “We knew him as good” if the deceased was a good person, but it is considered shameful, even a sin, to say “We knew him as bad” after a thief, a fraudster, or an immoral man.

As I said, I never agree with this view.

That is why I have always written articles saying “I knew him as bad” after the deaths of Engin Ardıç, Mehmet Barlas, Süleyman Demirel, Deniz Baykal, Hıncal Uluç, and many others.

Why should I lie just because someone died, when I knew them to be bad and harmful to society while they were alive? Why should I say “He was good” when I don't believe it?

Who am I going to fool? God?

I know, now you will say, “If you can't say ‘He was good,’ then at least be silent... Don't write articles describing the bad things the man did. Don't upset his grieving family...”

Good God!

A bad person, with the things they did or didn't do throughout their life, with the money they stole, and the crimes they committed, will make the lives of those around them and the public miserable, and will cause as much pain as they can...

And just because they died, you tell me “Don't upset his family”...

Well, what was happening when that deceased man or woman was upsetting my family?

Isn't that a sin?

Let's get to our topic:

Özer Uçuran Çiller, the husband of former Prime Minister and one of those who made the public's life miserable, Tansu Çiller, has died.

Now, while the funeral prayer is being performed at the mosque, a bunch of men will lie and say, “We knew him as good”!

Yet, I don't think he did a favor for anyone other than his wife and children.

He was someone no one liked, who was involved in a bunch of shady business, who bankrupted banks, and who “organized” the public's money.

Here are some of the things written after his death under the name of this gentleman on Ekşi Sözlük, which describes itself as a “source of sacred knowledge”... Read them and decide for yourself whether you knew him as good or bad:

* A fortune that turned from 29 thousand dollars into 22 million dollars...

Establish a company for 185 dollars in the New Hampshire Salem tax haven, buy hotels and real estate for millions of dollars, buy a villa in Illinois. These things always happen with a “bundle,” for sure.

* A news item from 1997: “The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation into allegations that US businessman Roger Tamraz bribed Özer Çiller to win the construction of the Baku-Ceyhan Pipeline.”

* The “shadow prime minister” who left his mark on an era!

* First Lady.

* The individual who saw his wife's political journey as a business where good money could be made.

* The person who married 16-year-old Tansu Çiller when he was 25.

* One of the influential class who lived without being tried, without being held accountable, and who ate the cream of the country...
