We will teach you who Atatürk is too, Google!

Yesterday was the 105th anniversary of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades landing in Samsun to launch the War of Independence.

We celebrated our May 19th Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day with enthusiasm, with the exception of those in power.

A post that began circulating on social media in the morning dampened our holiday spirit, if only slightly.

When you typed “Who is Atatürk?” into the search engine Google, the page that appeared contained the phrase “Former President of Turkey.”

This three-line, despicable definition, written to diminish and belittle Atatürk, brought to mind a debate that took place years ago.

The UNESCO General Conference wanted to declare the year 1981 as the Mustafa Kemal Atatürk Year in honor of the 100th anniversary of his birth.

The draft resolution stated, “Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey, is the patron of all the projects that UNESCO is working on today.”

The Swedish delegate suddenly stood up and objected:

“There are so many statesmen in the world. Are we going to celebrate the birthdays of all of them like this?”

The response came from the Soviet Union delegate:

“I would like to remind my young colleague that Atatürk is not just any leader in the world. Let alone commemorating him for a year; every country should seek him out as a remedy for every problem!”

And what happened next?

The Swedish delegate who initially objected came to the microphone at the ceremony held for the signing of the text and said exactly this:

“I did not know Atatürk. I have studied him. I apologize to all countries and I am the first to sign.”

And that magnificent document says:

“Who is Atatürk;

Atatürk is an exceptional person who strove for international understanding, cooperation, and peace…

A revolutionary who carried out extraordinary reforms…

The first leader to fight against colonialism and expansionism…

A pioneer of world peace who respects human rights…

A UNIQUE STATESMAN who did not discriminate between people based on color, language, religion, or race throughout his entire life…

The founder of the Republic of Turkey…”

A Turkish and Atatürk-hating scoundrel working at Google called him “Former President of Turkey”…

Forget the inadequacy of the definition; don't get hung up on that…

The real purpose is hidden in the phrase “Former Turkey”!

This vile text writer thinks he is saying, “Atatürk’s Turkey is old, there is now a new and different Republic!”

I have two suggestions for this ignorant rogue:

First, look at the millions who rush to Anıtkabir and Dolmabahçe Palace on every national holiday; that is one…

Two; look again at the roads, squares, homes, bridges, workplaces, and even hospitals at five minutes past nine on every November 10th.

Look and see how more than 100 million people all over the world stand in silence and shed tears for a “president” who died 85 years ago!

Do not close your eyes to the love people have for Atatürk, for whom they do not even cry for their own mothers or fathers…

If the Google text writer who committed this treachery and tried to poison our holiday yesterday is not looking at these, let them look at the UNESCO resolution text that I found and pulled from their own pages!

A word to the executives of Google Turkey as well:

If you still haven't learned who our Ancestor is, we will teach you in such a way… You will be stunned!

With a tiny boycott campaign, we won't even leave a trace of you in this country!

If you haven't apologized by this hour, understand the gravity of the mistake you have made and take action!
