Our beautiful country hasofficially moved into a surreal dimension withunbelievable events andpractices; “imaginary” or “this is just too much” everything that could be said has been said, and has been made to happen. Here is the latest example; the lateFirstLieutenant who wasmartyred 9 years ago by PKK terroristsLieutenant Murat Ataş was placed under atravel ban due to a "terror"investigation. Atravel ban was imposed.
Youdidn't understand anything, did you?
Since this is a subject I have been following since 2020, I willexplain it from thevery beginning.
Two and a half months after the July 15 coupattempt, news of two martyrs arrived from Lice, Diyarbakır. According to the officialstatements, theyFollowing the attack carried out by separatist terrorists on the military base area in Liceas a result of the attack At the baseLieutenant Murat Ataş and Specialist SergeantOğuzhan Cito were martyredinthe incidentfell in action. However, years later, from a court transcript; it was revealed that two of our martyrs fell into a PKK ambush in the rural area of Abalı, Diyarbakır, and were martyred there.we learnedof his death.
Our media, while announcingthe martyrdom of First Lieutenant Murat Ataş with the headline “He would have had a child in 1 month,” emphasized that he wanted his daughter, whom he was waiting to be born, to be named “Başak Aslı.” And soit happened; she was born 1 month later. And so it happened; 1 month later she was boThe daughter was named "Başak Aslı".
Our martyr's wife, Sezen Ataş, was 24 years old at the time and living in Bursa. While undergoing treatment for depression, she was alsotrying toraise herdaughter. During thisprocess, state officials never left the familyalone.
However, the visit made by state officials on the morning of July 25, 2019, the wedding ann iversary of the Ataş couple, was different; Sezen Ataş was facing an accusation of "FETÖ membership".was takeninto custody.During the 1.5-hour search of the house, they even checked the martyr's suitcase that had arrived from Diyarbakır and was sitting in the closet.
However, 15 daysago, the police calledand summoned himfor a statement; he went immediately, gave his statement, and returned home 3-4 hours later.prevented.
Following the detentionprocedure at home, Sezen Ataş was taken to Nevşehir, where the investigationwas being conducted, her statement was taken, and her arrest was requested. However, the Criminal Court of Peace imposed a travel bandecided to release him under judicial control measures, including a travel ban and the requirement to sign in at a police station. Ataş then returned to Gemlik, to his daughter's side.returned.
One month later, for "membership in an organization"an indictment was preparedand his trial began at the Bursa 2ndHigh Criminal Court.
Two confessionscAccording to the indictment prepared based on the statements of,Sezen Ataş while a university student, had stayed in a community house, attended conversation meetings, and also used ByLock. However, according to the investigation report, the phone in question was used between 2013-2015used between the yearsit appeared. The ByLock detection reportwasnot prepared,no User ID matching was performed, and nocontent was reported. Moreover, Sezen Ataş's aunt had bought this phone years later from a dealer selling second-hand phones, and she was the one using it.
The Martyr's Bank Accounts Had Also Been Investigated
Regarding the trial of Sezen Ataş;at the first hearing on December 12,2019, she explained where she studied, where she lived, how she married Murat Ataş, and how manymartyrs there were in her family, and she categorically denied the accusationsagainst her. When the presiding judge asked, “whether she wished to benefit from the effective remorse law” to the question, “I am definitely nota member of any terrorist organization, soI do notwish to benefit fromeffective remorse provisions” he replied. Meanwhile, he learned that during the investigation phase, not only his own bank accounts but also those of his martyr spouse were being examined lupon learning, “There is nothing to say. My husband lies in the Edirnekapı Martyrdom. You can go there and question him.” reacted with these words. LawyerPelin Emenir Abazoğlu also asked, “So what, if the martyr had a Bank Asya account, would it have been used as evidence?” he asked.
In that first hearing, the prosecutor who announced the mpinion on the meritsrequestedthatSezen Ataş be punished for membership in an organization, while the court, on one hand, requested an investigation into the ByLock allegationto write a memorandumdecided to be issued, on the other hand, regarding thefinal opinionfor the defenseagainst theuntil February 13, 2020gave permission.
Following thesedevelopments, we asked the following:
“Before investigating whether a martyr's spouse was a ‘member of a terroristorganization’ on February 13,was 3-year-old Başak a martyr's daughter, or a terrorist?terrorist'sdaughter, will it not have been decided?”
Theresult?
13 At the hearing on February, Sezen Ataş was sentenced to 6 years, 10 months, and 15days of imprisonment. washanded down... 8 months later, on October 14, the Bursa Court of Appeal found the decision appropriate, butstated that "the organizational position and the scope of the organizational activitiesdid not warrant moving away from the lower limit," overturned this decision, and reduced the sentence to 6 years and 3 months!!!
Currently, the Court of CassationThe current status of the file pending at the Court of Cassation is as follows: The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office requested that this sentence be overturned due to an incomplete investigation.
Back then, meaning 5 years ago, wesaid the following:
“Even if the Court of Cassationupholds it, this martyr's spouse will be a ‘terrorist organization memberdue to will go to prison... In this case, unfortunately, 5-year-old Başak Aslı will be the child of both a martyr and a 'terrorist'...How painful!..
Investigation Opened on the 9th Anniversary of His MartyrdomOpened
It turns out there was even worse to come...
What happened is this:
Sezen Ataş, inrecentdays, tried to obtain a green passport for her daughter Başak Aslı, who is now 9.5 years old, through her father for an international course offered by her school. throughher father to get a green passportfor the application.
When she went to the appointment given by the Population Directorate yesterday, Sezen Ataş was told exactly this:
“We cannot issue a passport because Mr. Murat has a travel ban.”
Shocked,Sezen Ataş, “There must be a mistake. My husband is a martyr. I have a travel ban.” she said. The records were checked once more; no, there was no mistake. On October 1, 2025, the 9th anniversary of his martyrdom, a Criminal Judgeship of Peace in Istanbul had imposed a travel banon martyr Murat Ataş.
Her lawyer, Pelin Emenir Abazoğlu, stepped in and investigated what had happened. Martyr Murat Ataş’s Turkish ID number as a result of the inquiry made throughit reached two investigation records.
According to one of therecords; by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office TerrorCrimesInvestigationBureau An investigation was opened regarding our martyr on July 25, 2023,buta decision of non-prosecution was issued in this investigation on October 30.
According to the other record, the investigation opened on July 22, 2025, was merged with another file on October 1, 2025, and with this merger,a travel banwas imposed on our martyr.
Incompetence, ineptitude, being more royalist than the king;whatever it may be, it is the officialproofthat things have completely spiraled out of control!..
