The Golden Ratio: 'The Kurd's honor, the Turk's pride'!..

The separatist terrorist organization PKK burned 30 weapons. In return, a concession was made to establish a commission in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) for a new “solution process.”

This is the same mechanism that the old Bahçeli once described by saying, “The TBMM will be attempted to be made a partner in treason... Showing politics and the TBMM as the address for the solution of the so-called Kurdish question is an appetite and desire to stain the national will with traitorous separatists... Seeing baby killers as legitimate, and aiming to establish the conditions for meeting, talking, and agreeing with them is cruelty, humiliation, and hostility toward Turkey... Trying to spread the demands of separatist terror to all our citizens of Kurdish origin will mean that the PKK is the spokesperson and representative of all of them.”

The AKP named this commission, which was established without any legal basis, “a Turkey without terror,” while the MHP first called it “brotherhood and solidarity,” and later “national unity and solidarity.”

We do not yet know the name that the CHP deems appropriate.

The first tragic event is that the DEM members “vehemently” objected to “a Turkey without terror.” They called it “a product of past concepts and a constantly criminal mind.” Instead, based on the terrorist leader's slogan, they proposed the name “peace and democratic society.”

In plain Turkish; these people do not consider the murders committed for 40 years to be “terror”... Then what are they? “A struggle for freedom”!..

It is obvious that the demands of the terrorist leader, the PKK, and the DEM will be brought to the agenda through this commission. In that case, wouldn't it be more appropriate to call it “brotherhood and solidarity with the PKK”?

The second tragic event; AKP Group Chairman Abdullah Güler announced that the commission's work would be closed to the press.

While CHP Chairman Özgür Özel says to Güler, “He has been insolent. The members of this commission will decide how this commission will work at their first meeting,” DEM Group Deputy Chairman and commission member Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit stated that the commission's work would not be completely closed to the press and that “there was such a consensus.”

How the AKP-DEM are working in a closed circuit is evident from the very beginning.

Yet, TBMM Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş, who made a desperate effort for the establishment of the commission, had claimed that “the commission would work with transparency”!..

WHAT ELSE WILL THE COMMISSION COOK UP?

According to the Speaker of the Parliament and the media, “The commission will prepare a ‘law regarding the PKK’s disarmament process’... In this context, ‘accusations of membership in an organization will be dropped, and investigations and prosecutions will be lifted,’ and ‘the right to hope and house arrest for the terrorist leader’ will be discussed... Furthermore, a package of proposals will be prepared for the social integration of PKK members who lay down their arms and return to Turkey, primarily regarding their education, professional life, and military service.”

Is that all?!

Setting aside the “Kurdish question” rhetoric of the DEM and CHP, hadn't Erdoğan said, “As a first step, we will establish a commission in the TBMM, and we will start discussing the legal needs of the process under the roof of the Parliament. I am underlining this: as the People's Alliance, we will cook this process together with the AK Party, the Nationalist Movement Party, and the DEM delegation, God willing, and carry it into the future... We believe that the strong contribution our Ghazi Parliament will make to the process is of critical importance in terms of the work being carried out... Let everyone know that there is no need to clench fists anymore. We will reconcile, we will embrace, we will talk, and we will walk by taking steps toward each other.”

KURTULMUŞ-ÖCALAN INTERSECTIONS

Let us return to TBMM Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş. A few days ago, on the way from Geneva to Turkey, he made these pithy statements:

“Fifty years of the hundred-year-old Republic have been spent with terror. Now a historic opportunity has emerged... The main issue is to create an environment of trust in the true sense. For this, the golden ratio is; ‘The Kurd's honor, the Turk's pride.’ We desire our Kurdish citizens to embrace the process with the confidence that everyone has equal rights and freedoms as a citizen of the Republic of Turkey, and with such a sentiment; and for our Turkish citizens to embrace the process with the sentiment that ‘We are not being divided, we are not being fragmented; on the contrary, the organization that poses a threat in this regard is being liquidated.’”

Kurtulmuş, who argued that the process is “a state and nation policy” and that “there is no connection between the constitutional work and the work for a Turkey without terror,” also noted the following:

But discussing the constitution is a matter of political climate. My personal opinion is that Turkey must now get rid of the September 12 constitution. Yes, its articles may have been changed, but the coup-plotting spirit hidden here is gathered within the texts of the constitution. But what kind of a constitution will it be? It will be a civil, libertarian, inclusive, embracing, democratic constitution. It will be a constitution that responds to the problems of the age and the needs of the nation. I hope Turkey will do this.”

We wrote about this when Numan Kurtulmuş took office as TBMM Speaker in 2023 with a call for a “new constitution”; let us remind you again.

In January 2013, the terrorist leader in İmralı made the following assessment regarding Kurtulmuş, who was then the Deputy Chairman of the AKP responsible for the economy, to the HDP delegation:

“Actually, it had to be a constituent assembly regarding the Constitution. The current work did not yield results. Later, it could be handled in the form of a Constitutional Constituent Convention from the front of Numan Kurtulmuş and Osman Can... How will you make a constitution without the Kurdish reality being accepted by the parliament? In this regard, you can take the 1921 Constitution and the twenty-article Kurdish reform draft as a basis.”

Kurtulmuş's response to this assessment was, “We do not know what is being talked about or what is being done in İmralı. It is extremely wrong to make such speculations about the process carried out by the relevant state officials and public servants,” and then he spoke as follows:

“I hope Turkey will seize the chance it caught in 2009 once again. Despite all kinds of provocations, Turkey will end this terror scourge that has been going on for over 30 years... The duty of politics is to provide all kinds of contributions to the effort to make this a land of well-being.”

In that article, after asking, “What kind of light did the terrorist leader see in Kurtulmuş that he wanted him to take a role in the ‘Constitutional Constituent Convention,’ which means a ‘Constituent Assembly,’ and to write the ‘sections of the Constitution related to the Kurdish question’? Were these what caught the terrorist leader's attention?” we noted the following:

- In the program of the People's Voice Party (HAS Party), which Kurtulmuş founded after leaving the Felicity Party in 2010, both a new constitution and “equal citizenship” were emphasized...

- In the 2011 proposal for a “New Constitution for New Politics”; it was stated that there were “common views” on proposals such as, “The preamble is not mandatory... The current definition of citizenship is far behind creating a roof identity; it should be said that ‘Everyone who has a bond of citizenship with the Republic of Turkey is a citizen of the Republic of Turkey’... Education in the mother tongue should be designed as a constitutional right for equal citizenship,” which were included in the proposal prepared by Memur-Sen...

- Regarding the “Kurdish opening,” Kurtulmuş said, “I said from the very beginning that it would reach a point of blockage. Because the Government had no compass... If I were the Prime Minister, I would first apologize on behalf of the state for the unsolved murders. I would also apologize to the families of the martyrs.” In his election rallies, he criticized Erdoğan's words that “there is no Kurdish question” by asking, “What steps have been taken in 9 years that there is no Kurdish question left in Turkey?” and explained that “they will establish a Turkey where no one is a second-class citizen in this country; where no one is humiliated because of their language, religion, lifestyle, or beliefs; where the Turk is not superior or inferior to the Kurd, and the Kurd is not superior or inferior to the Arab; and where those who want to live their faith in Turkey can do so as they wish.”...

- After joining the AKP, while defending the “solution process,” he said, “It is not a process dictated to Turkey... It is Turkey's national project... Therefore, this is a national process. It is not a process of division, but a process of Turkey's integration,” and supported the Dolmabahçe consensus with the words, “These 10 articles are already articles that Turkey has been discussing for years. They are articles related to the democratization of Turkey.”...

The most crucial part regarding 2011 was this:

While announcing the election manifesto, which included the promise that “all rhetoric and expressions that create ethnic discrimination, especially the oath read in primary schools, will be removed,” he said exactly the following:

“We will implement a reasonable program that will not hurt the pride of the Turk or the honor of the Kurds. The mother tongue is as lawful as mother's milk. We will provide constitutional guarantees for this.”

THE TERRORIST LEADER ALSO COMMANDED SO

Let us also listen to the terrorist leader regarding this “honor” issue. While demanding the establishment of commissions in the Parliament during the opening-scattering process in 2013-2014, he frequently used the following expressions:

- “We will go to a true peace with Turkish-Kurdish peace. They have dynamited and poisoned the relations between these two societies. We will work on how we can overcome this. A people's national honor will be played with, and the people will remain unresponsive to this! I am angry... We want to make the Kurds a democratic unit. There will be no peace without this in the Turkish Constitution and laws.”

- “Today, the possibility of an honorable peace has increased more than ever. I have done more than my part for this process until today, and I am doing it.”

- “If I can stay alive, how will an honorable peace of a forty-year war be? Just discuss these. Then there will be a package regarding the democratic contract. The possibilities for discussion have increased. I am the strategic side of this. If not this year, it will be reflected in the constitution next year. There is no escape.”

- “Of course, Mr. (Cemil) Çiçek is the Speaker of the Parliament. He should do his best on these issues. Whatever way it will be, he should also present these to the Parliament. For example, there is something similar in Koçgiri in 1921. The Parliament calls them, takes a decision, and says end the rebellion. Although their process continues a bit differently, ours is also a bit like that. We will end a rebellion. How will it be without the Parliament taking a decision? Ours is also a forty-fifty-year-old issue.”

In short; it is neither new nor a coincidence that TBMM Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş, 14 years later, says “The Kurd's honor, the Turk's pride” again and finds the “golden ratio” formula!..

One must ask; do our citizens of Kurdish origin have an “honor” problem in this country? Only the one in İmralı and his men could have such a problem because they are called “terrorist, baby killer, separatist”!..

The elevation of the separatist terrorist organization and its leader to the position of representative of our citizens of Kurdish origin, the state taking them as interlocutors, and the aching of the bones of our martyrs is nothing but the trampling of the pride of our 85 million people!..
