Investigation or war: Now there is an allegation that 'a police officer swore at an AKP deputy'!..

Muğla is a metropolitan city and also one of our important tourism centers. For some time now, strange events have been taking place here involving not only local administrators, bureaucrats, and journalists, but also names from the AKP and MHP, yet for some reason, there is no sound coming from Ankara.

The latest development in the events in Muğla, which we have drawn attention to twice before, is as follows: It is alleged that a police officer swore at an AKP deputy, and that the deputy went to Minister of Interior Mustafa Çiftçi and Director General of Security Mahmut Demirtaş and said, "Are you waiting for them to raid my house? Are you not going to intervene?"

First, let us briefly summarize what is happening in Muğla.

As stated in the police correspondence itself, within the scope of an investigation carried out on charges of "targeting official institution directors and institution employees in Muğla, primarily Muğla AK Party administrators, the MHP Provincial Chairman, and the Muğla Governor, in posts made on certain social media accounts, and unlawfully giving, disseminating, or seizing personal data to damage the political reputations of the institutions and complainants in the accounts in question," as well as "publicly disseminating misleading information to the public and publicly insulting the President," numerous operations were organized, and in addition to local journalists known for their closeness to the AKP, names including advisors to AKP deputies and a former MHP provincial chairman were detained, and a significant portion of them were arrested.

In our article titled "The Muğla incident that stirred up the AKP and MHP" on March 28, we reported that AKP deputy Kadem Mete had explained what was happening there to both Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek, Minister of Interior Mustafa Çiftçi, and MHP administrators, and that he had also mentioned a "beating list" that included his own name, saying, "What does it mean to have a deputy beaten? What kind of business is this?"

The 17.00-24.00 Operation

In the same article, we mentioned another event that took place just one day before our article. The event was as follows:

The father of journalist Kürşat Keskin, who was arrested in the first operation in January and who received a statement from Erdoğan before Hande Fırat during the July 15 coup attempt, had filed a criminal complaint with the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against the Muğla Governor, two MHP figures, and the managers of MUÇEV, which was established to manage the beaches in Muğla.

As it happens, Yusuf Keskin, the twin brother of Kürşat Keskin, who has been living in Ankara for some time, went to Muğla with former AKP deputy Yelda Erol Gökcan on the day that petition was filed. They passed through the VIP sections of the airports together. When they left Muğla Airport to get into their own cars, Yusuf Keskin was detained.

During the police and prosecutor's interrogation, Yusuf Keskin was asked about the social media accounts that were the subject of the investigation, as well as a WhatsApp correspondence he had with a friend named K.Ç. The content of the correspondence was Yusuf Keskin asking K.Ç. for information about the names of the 4 police officers who took part in the investigation and posed for a victory photo after Kürşat Keskin's arrest, and where they were serving.

In the end, Yusuf Keskin was released with judicial control measures; but the very next day, an operation was carried out against K.Ç., who is a shipyard operator in Marmaris, as follows:

In the letter sent by the Muğla Police Department's Cyber Crimes Branch to the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office requesting detention and the seizure of digital devices, after mentioning his correspondence with Yusuf Keskin, K.Ç.'s home and workplace addresses and the license plate of the vehicle belonging to his wife that K.Ç. used were reported, and it was requested that "he be detained; a one-time search be conducted at night between 17.00-24.00 in his vehicle, residence/workplace, and their outbuildings; all his digital devices be seized; and an examination decision be obtained from the court to examine them."

It happened as written; that evening, K.Ç. was detained and his digital devices were seized. After the police interrogation, he was referred to the Criminal Judgeship of Peace the next day by the prosecutor's office with a request for judicial control measures in the form of "a ban on traveling abroad and signing in every 15 days."

In addition to the charges we mentioned above, K.Ç. was also accused of "targeting persons who have taken part in the fight against terrorism." In his statements, K.Ç. said that he did not use the social media accounts that were the subject of the investigation and did not know who used them, that Yusuf Keskin was a friend the family met with, that he only knew one of the police officers mentioned, and that it was impossible for him to provide the information requested by Yusuf Keskin because he was taking his child to the hospital that day and because he was someone with a criminal record, which he had informed Keskin of.

Handcuffed and Taken to His Home... Search Conducted with 40 Police Officers

After K.Ç. was released with judicial control measures in line with the prosecutor's request, he made incredible allegations regarding the search and seizure process and what he experienced while in custody.

In the criminal complaint filed by his lawyer against "some law enforcement officers and responsible supervisors who carried out the search-seizure process, and a police officer named A.Y. who works at the Menteşe District Cyber Crimes Branch where he was held in custody," the following was summarized regarding the operation at the house:

"The client was caught on March 28 on the street behind the shopping mall named .... .... and was put into a police vehicle and brought to his residence address. When he was told that a search would be conducted at his residence, the client requested that the handcuffs be removed for 10 minutes while entering the door and that his children be allowed to be taken out of the house. Although his request was met positively, his handcuffs were not opened while entering the house, and the search process began with great chaos in front of his children. When his little daughter got scared and ran to the kitchen and hid under the table, one of the police officers participating in the search opened the client's handcuffs, after which the client calmed his daughter down and took both his daughter and son out of the house. The police who came with the team in Muğla got angry at the police officer who removed the handcuffs and reacted by saying, 'Who told you to open his handcuffs?' The search process was carried out with 14-15 police vehicles and approximately 40 police officers, and the police acted as if they had caught a hardened criminal, a fugitive, or a terrorist. Furthermore, although the search process is subject to a judge's decision, no valid search warrant was presented to the client, and no concrete justification was put forward regarding the urgency of the situation. Although the lawyer participating in the search wanted to see the search warrant, the police said, 'There is a confidentiality order on the file.' Later, it was learned by us that there was no confidentiality order on the file. During the search and seizure process, the police received phone calls many times, and they acted on the instructions received from these phone conversations. They also wanted to seize some alcohol bottles found in the house due to the arbitrary use of the client and his wife, but then they changed their decision with a phone call that came later and said, 'We will take everything.'"

"Kadem Mete's too"

Then, the following allegations were included regarding what happened at the Police Department:

"After the search process, the client was detained and taken first to the hospital and then to the Muğla Cyber Crimes Branch. After staying in the detention cell for a while, at a time he estimated to be between 21.00-00.00, he was taken out of there by the police and taken to an office on the upper floors, where the door was closed, and he was left alone with a police officer who stated his name was A.Y. and was sitting in the supervisor's chair, and another police officer sitting in the side chair whose name he did not know and who did not speak at all during this process. While the client thought he was taken out of the detention cell to sign some documents, he was subjected to insults, threats, intimidation, and swearing by the aforementioned police officer. The police officer, who treated the client like a terrorist, said, 'You are traitors to the homeland. What is it to share the information of public officials, of police officers who serve the state? Look, I will show you what I will do in Marmaris, from now on you will go to your hometown and build boats. You don't know our power. We will also take your shipyard from you. It doesn't work by acting like a tough guy on social media, does it? Who is Samet? Samet the director's [expletive], Kadem Mete's [expletive] too. You make appointments as you please. You also appoint the district governor, you also make money from these things. Your order, your director, and your district governor's [expletive].' He asked the client for his phone password in an irregular manner, and when he did not give it, he got even angrier and said, 'We will see, you will see the state on the street from now on. I will take you here again.' The client left the room to avoid being subjected to more insults and threats, and the police took him back to the detention cell. Images of the client being taken out of the detention cell and taken to the office upstairs are available in the camera recordings inside the branch. We request that the recordings of these cameras be obtained and examined."

There is an addition; it is stated that after K.Ç. was released and went to Marmaris, he was detained there as well due to the alcohol and cigarettes seized during the house search.

Let us also note that it is reported that AKP Deputy Kadem Mete, who was aware of that criminal complaint, went to Director General of Security Mahmut Demirtaş first, and then to Minister of Interior Mustafa Çiftçi, to explain once again what happened in Muğla, saying, "They are swearing at me. Are you waiting for them to raid my house? Are you not going to intervene?"
