When Colani-Ahmed Shara, who was seated in the Syrian Presidential chair while being the head of HTS—an organization recognized as a terrorist group by the US, the UN, and even Turkey—was hosted by Trump on November 10, he was taken into the White House through a side entrance instead of the main gate... No welcoming ceremony was held for him... At the beginning of the meeting, Trump first sprayed the perfume he was holding onto Shara and Syrian Foreign Minister Shaibani... Then, he asked Shara how many wives he had.
Our concern is not Shara's position in the eyes of Trump, but the content of the 1.5-hour meeting. Its importance is this: Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan was also invited to a part of that meeting, and Trump, referring to developments in southern Syria, asked Fidan directly, "How will you solve this issue with Israel?" When the subject turned to the Syrian PKK, the SDF, Shara passed the ball to Fidan and asked him to provide information to Trump.
According to the pro-government media, after this meeting, which was considered very successful, "the lifespan of the SDF, which resisted complying with the March 10 Agreement, would be determined by Trump's patience limit, and if the SDF did not listen to the US, eyes would turn to Turkey, which keeps the military operation option warm"... In short, "the end of the road was in sight for the SDF"!..
While the government and its media accepted being deceived for the umpteenth time, the news coming from the terrorist organization and the US side was different.
Mazloum Kobani, the head of the SDF, who announced that he had a "great phone call" with regional governor Tom Barrack, who attended the Trump-Shara meeting, thanked Trump for his "leadership on the Syrian issue" and said, "Syria's participation in the global coalition against ISIS... represents a very important step. We are working meticulously in close coordination with our partners to make progress toward a more prosperous and secure future for our people in a unified Syria."
Besam Ishak, the so-called Washington representative of the terrorist organization's Democratic Syrian Assembly, who described Shara's White House visit as "historic," also claimed after the meeting attended by Hakan Fidan that "there are assurances that Turkey will play a positive role in facilitating the integration process between the two sides" and that "the form of decentralization will be decided through negotiations among Syrians."
Apart from his meeting with Trump, Colani-Shara met with the Republican and Democratic leaders of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee for dinner. Republican Senator Marlin Stutzman, who attended that dinner, stated that he supports a federal system in Syria where Kurds can govern their own regions while remaining part of Syria, and then said he spoke with Shara about "the Kurds and Druze... developing a federal system where they can maintain their autonomy."
Trump's regional governor, Tom Barrack, also provided the following information:
"Damascus will now actively help us in the fight against ISIS remnants, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Hamas, Hezbollah, and other terrorist networks... In the critical session we held with Rubio, Fidan, and Shaibani, we shaped the next phase of the US-Turkey-Syria framework... This framework includes the integration of the SDF into the economy, defense, and civil structure of the new Syria, the redefinition of Turkey-Syria-Israel relations, the advancement of the compromise that provided the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, and the addressing of Lebanon's various border issues."
RESULTS OF THE ALEPPO OPERATION
As is known, the SDF continued to do as it pleased, and the term of the March 10 agreement expired on December 31. While Ankara was sending warning after warning to the SDF before and after December 31, Aleppo surprisingly came to the agenda, and Shara's army carried out an operation against two neighborhoods held by the SDF.
Upon this development, Trump said, "The Kurds and the Syrian government, we get along well with both... We want this to be stopped."...
Regional governor Tom Barrack also, after reporting just last week that they were on the verge of successfully concluding the March 10 agreement between the SDF and the Syrian government, called on the "leadership of the Syrian government, the SDF, local authorities in Kurdish-led regions, and all armed actors on the ground" to "de-escalate"... Barrack also noted that they "remain committed to a vision of Syria that guarantees full participation and equal rights for every citizen without exception, including Sunnis, Kurds, Druze, Christians, Alawites, and all other communities."
Meanwhile, Ilham Ahmed, the co-chair of foreign relations of the so-called Rojava administration, stated, "The US is playing a mediating role... We hope they will apply pressure to reach an agreement."
Ultimately, a "temporary ceasefire" was reached, and it was reported that the YPG/SDF forces of the terrorist organization had decided to withdraw to the east of the Euphrates.
Following this development, the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its "deep gratitude and appreciation" to Masoud Barzani, as well as the US, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, and the UK, for their "effective and efficient role in supporting Syria's 'stability'."
Tom Barrack, who met with Colani-Shara, also reminded of the US partnership with the SDF... He called on Syria and the SDF to return to dialogue... He warned that "violence leads to foreign interference that is not in the interest of any party"... And he stated that US Secretary of State Rubio's team is ready to facilitate cooperation between the Syrian government and the SDF, and asked Syria's neighbors and the international community to support the vision that "offers equality, justice, and opportunities to all its people" and to provide the necessary cooperation and assistance.
On the other hand, Ilham Ahmed, the co-chair of foreign relations of the so-called Rojava administration, claimed that they accepted the proposal to withdraw to the east of the Euphrates, which was presented to them by international mediators, on the conditions of "guaranteeing the presence of local Kurdish security forces" and "establishing a local council."
In summary; with the Aleppo operation, the "equal" status of Damascus and the SDF was underlined... With the emphasis on "withdrawal to the east of the Euphrates," the so-called Rojava administration was fortified... And with the "ceasefire" effectively implemented by the March 10 agreement, it was extended, and Turkey's possible operation was stopped.
Indeed, Abdülkadir Selvi, one of the voices of the government, also announced yesterday that the button would not be pressed immediately for the operation, that a new opportunity for negotiation would be offered to the SDF and a new chance would be given to the agreement, and if the SDF chooses to resist, this time in February, a major military operation to the east of the Euphrates would begin with the consensus of Turkey, the US, and the Syrian government.
Let's see what else Trump will pull out of his hat within a month, starting with an attack on Iran... By the way, does Ankara have any preparations against possible developments in Iran?!
