So the President 'Beat Up' the Chancellor; But What's the Result?!

What Erdoğan said at the joint press conference with Chancellor Olaf Scholz during his visit to Germany on Friday shook the headlines of our media.

Some ran the headline, "He shook the world"... Some asked, "How did Chancellor Olaf get beaten up?"... Some said "Amen" to the President... And some called on the opposition to stand behind Erdoğan and say, "Well done, Tayyip Erdoğan," because he acted as a spokesperson for all of us and put the world's powers in their place during his visit to Germany.

Let's say "Well done"; but what is the result?

Erdoğan may have put Chancellor Scholz, one of the spokespeople of imperialism, in his place; but

Was a ceasefire achieved in Gaza?.. Were the hostages rescued?.. Did Israel abandon its massacres?..

Or did Erdoğan issue an ultimatum saying, "If you do not abandon your pro-Israel policies, we will close Kürecik and İncirlik. We will not approve Sweden's NATO membership. We will stop taking care of Syrian refugees," and did Scholz then announce, "Oh no!.. We were wrong, please don't," and declare they would stop acting as Israel's protector?

No, none of these things happened. Erdoğan spoke as if he were addressing the AKP Parliamentary Group; and the Chancellor endured Erdoğan's "beating" (!) because of the projects they have been and will be carrying out through Turkey—especially regarding migrants!..

And all that was left for us was to puff out our chests with pride!..

Leaving the Palestine-Israel issue aside; let's look at whether there has been any improvement or development in our relations with Germany, the locomotive of the EU, due to Erdoğan's visit.

Let's start with the Syrian refugees, the main reason Western imperialism looks Erdoğan in the eye.

It was two months ago; when Greek Minister of Migration and Asylum Dimitris Kairidis said that a new refugee agreement should be signed between the EU and Turkey, he asked for Berlin to mediate.

As it happens; Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis was in Germany three days before Erdoğan. Along with other issues, he and Chancellor Scholz discussed refugees, the Eastern Mediterranean, and Cyprus.

It was reported that irregular migration was also addressed at the Erdoğan-Scholz meeting.

The result? Did Germany agree to share the heavy burden Turkey is carrying, or did it negotiate a new agreement on behalf of Greece and the EU?

We don't know this; but we do know that Michael Roth, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the German Bundestag, openly said, "Erdoğan also wants a lot. He has completely driven the country into a wall economically. Inflation in Turkey is very high and youth unemployment is extremely high... He needs the European economy to get his own economy back on track."

Another issue; the US sat on the money we paid for the F-35s. Having likely lost hope for the F-16s, Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler announced that we would buy Eurofighters. The biggest obstacle to this purchase was Germany. But didn't Erdoğan himself say, "The Chancellor did not touch upon this subject at all. That is, he did not make a comment on whether they would provide the Eurofighters or not"?

IF CYPRUS IS A TARGET OF THE 'PROMISED LAND'

What we really want to focus on are the developments regarding Cyprus.

Following the Hamas-Israel war that began on October 7, our country's leaders remembered one after another that one of the targets of the "Greater Israel" project is Turkey.

For the last 15 days, it has been argued that Cyprus is also within the scope of this project, that Israel—which is destroying Palestine by force of arms—is playing the same game in the TRNC by buying up land parcel by parcel, and that it is establishing colonies on the island and settling thousands of Jews fleeing the Ukraine war there. Warnings are being issued: "Let the end of the TRNC not be like Palestine."

What does the subject have to do with Germany?

About a month ago, soldiers belonging to German special forces units were stationed in the Greek Cypriot side. TRNC President Ersin Tatar reacted to this as follows:

"Any military development throughout Cyprus must absolutely be reported to Turkey... It is contrary to international agreements for foreign military forces to come to the Island without the permission and approval of Turkey, which is a guarantor of the Republic of Cyprus, and ourselves. It does not matter if it is Germany or another country. The guarantors of Cyprus are Turkey, the UK, and Greece. This must be paid attention to... They should not involve Cyprus, which is in a nearby geography, in such a tragedy."

Let alone getting permission from Turkey, the guarantor, while German soldiers are being sent to Cyprus; did Erdoğan ask Chancellor Scholz, "What is this? What are your soldiers looking for in Cyprus?" If he asked, what answer did he get?

Let's go back a little; before US Secretary of State Blinken kindly came to Ankara, what did he discuss with President Nikos Christodoulides after visiting the Greek Cypriot side?

"Joint efforts on a wide range of issues, including Cyprus's leadership in humanitarian operations to support civilians in Gaza..."

Well, did Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan ask his US counterpart why they are involving Cyprus in this business?

It wasn't asked, and the media that supports the government is now, while praising Erdoğan to the skies on one hand, writing the following on the other:

"The Greek Cypriot Administration has become a base providing logistics for the massacre in Gaza. While the UK transports weapons to Israel from here, American and German soldiers are waiting on the island as a 'ready force' for a possible intervention. Southern Cyprus has also become a transfer center for Jews who want to return to Israel by heeding Netanyahu's call to 'join the army'."

"The US transported weapons to Israel from the Incirlik Base in Turkey... The British Akrotiri base in Southern Cyprus has become an international hub for the US to deliver weapons to Israel. US and British planes are making transport flights from their bases in Germany, Turkey, and Spain to Akrotiri, and from there to Israel."

If this is true; in the words of TRNC President Ersin Tatar, it is the picture of "Cyprus being involved in this tragedy"!..

We understand; they cannot close Incirlik and Kürecik... They cannot suspend defense agreements with Israel, stop oil shipments, and end trade...

At the very least, at this stage; if only they could ensure that the TRNC is urgently recognized by Azerbaijan, with whom we are "two states, one nation," Qatar and Pakistan, which are considered "brotherly," or Algeria—where our Ambassador Muhammet Mücahit Küçükyılmaz said, "We are two states, one ummah"—especially the Palestinian administration, which considers the Greek Cypriot side the representative of all of Cyprus...

If the condition of closing Israel's representative office in NATO were set in exchange for Sweden's NATO membership, which Germany and other countries want to be accelerated...

Wouldn't it be better if we took pride in these actions rather than empty rhetoric?!
