The country where little girls can only sleep soundly after meeting 'Grandpa Tayyip'!..

The second article of our Constitution states: "The Republic of Türkiye is a state of law."

But first, foreign powers discovered that our country is a "state of my own law."

It is thanks to this that Trump settled the Pastor Brunson affair with Erdoğan... Similarly, Merkel flew the German citizen journalist Deniz Yücel out of prison...

Macron "had to talk to Erdoğan every 10 days" for the French journalists imprisoned in our country...

When the Israeli couple arrested on charges of "espionage" for filming Erdoğan's residence were released shortly after, the Israeli Prime Minister and Foreign Minister thanked "Erdoğan and his government"...

The father of the train driver who lost his life in the train accident in Greece was a convict in our country for drug offenses and wanted to attend his son's funeral; Erdoğan not only ensured this but transferred that convict to Greece entirely!..

We citizens have become quite accustomed to this "law" in foreign relations; but this habit has also reflected on the politicians who aspire to govern the country and whom we thought would rebuild the state of law.

Perhaps the first example occurred during the 2021 incident when 103 retired admirals issued a statement to uphold the Montreux Convention.

When the government and its media labeled this statement a "coup/memorandum," some of the admirals were detained.

Their arrest was considered certain. Thanks to what retired Colonel Zeki Üçok told journalist and author Barış Terkoğlu, we learned that IYI Party Chair Meral Akşener had called Erdoğan twice and persuaded him not to have the admirals arrested.

Whether it is the result of this experience is unknown; last year, for the file of Ülkü Ocakları President Assoc. Prof. Sinan Ateş, who was murdered in the middle of Ankara, Akşener did not call this time but addressed Erdoğan in public as follows:

"You are the superior, the official, and the auditor of every institution. Mr. Erdoğan, why are you preventing the judiciary from doing its job? Who are you afraid of?"

Erdoğan responded to Akşener a few hours later:

"Today, the junior opposition has come out saying that we are directing the judiciary, that we are practically steering the judiciary... Oh, it is shameful. God knows how Erdoğan acts on this matter in Türkiye; you wouldn't understand. You should fix yourself first."

We Have Become So 'Normalized' (!)...

Let's look at what happened during the "normalization/softening" process that began with CHP Chair Özgür Özel's visit to Erdoğan.

In his visit on May 2, Özel requested the pardon of the February 28 commanders in prison and brought up the situation of the Gezi Park convicts. 15 days later, Erdoğan lifted the commanders' sentences based on forensic reports that had been waiting before him for a year.

During the return visit on June 11, Özel thanked Erdoğan for this and, while bringing up the Gezi Case once again, expressed his satisfaction with the transfer of Osman Kavala's file to the Ministry of Justice with a request for reversal in favor of the law.

Before moving on to Özel's other requests from Erdoğan, let's note this:

Just as the two leaders were meeting, Antalya Kepez Mayor Mesut Kocagöz, who was arrested for the cable car accident, was released. Two writers wrote, "It is understood that the news that Kocagöz would be released was delivered to the CHP Headquarters at the beginning of the meeting. Perhaps the judge found out later!", "Kepez Mayor Mesut Kocagöz, who was thrown in jail for the cable car accident, was released. You didn't like it? A gesture is a gesture!" and no one denied it.

What else did Özel want from Erdoğan?

For him to meet with and listen to Sinan Ateş's wife, Ayşe Ateş, and Emine Şenyaşar, whose two sons and husband were killed in Suruç in 2018.

Erdoğan has not yet met with Emine Şenyaşar; but on the same day, he accepted Ayşe Ateş and her daughters.

Let's come to what Ayşe Ateş, who had previously wanted to meet with Erdoğan but had not been accepted until that day, said.

She said that her daughter Zeynep asked, "Grandpa Tayyip, can you catch my father's killers?" and that Erdoğan replied, "Okay, my daughter"...

"Seeing that our state is by our side, along with the conscientious members of our noble nation, comforted the hearts of my daughters, who live in constant fear of death, and gave me strength in the struggle for justice I am waging. My daughters slept soundly last night. I slept soundly. So much so that my little daughter Banuçiçek wanted to sleep alone in her room for the first time in a long time," she stated...

She noted that she asked Erdoğan to "put forth a will for the trial to be conducted as quickly as possible and for the perpetrators whose guilt is proven by evidence to be tried quickly," and that Erdoğan "promised that whatever is necessary will be done"...

She also stated that she provided information about the threats, slanders, and insults she was subjected to, and that upon this, Erdoğan asked her to prepare a file to be forwarded to Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç and Chief of Staff Hasan Doğan, adding, "The President promised that the necessary action would be taken as soon as possible. The Minister of Justice also completed the necessary information and said he would carry out the President's instructions." She also emphasized that Erdoğan gave instructions for the family to be protected more strictly...

Although two close armed bodyguards were assigned to Ayşe Ateş after that meeting, 8 days later, the following happened:

Ayşe Ateş, who announced that the death threats continued, addressed Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç and Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya this time: "Don't you see what's coming? They are afraid of neither the security forces nor justice... We are tired of living with the anxiety of being killed at any moment! Say 'Stop!' to them now. I beg you: Do not allow a second 'Chronicle of a Death Foretold' to happen in this country. Do not leave my children orphans."

Let's underline another action that took place just two days after Ayşe Ateş's meeting with Erdoğan.

Two prosecutors who had been removed from office while investigating the Sinan Ateş assassination were subjected to demotion this time by an HSK decree. Ankara Deputy Chief Public Prosecutor Durdu Özer was appointed as a prosecutor to the Ankara Regional Court of Justice, and Public Prosecutor Durmuş Ali Kaya was appointed to the Diyarbakır Çınar Prosecutor's Office.

On the day the HSK Decree was published, Erdoğan was in Spain. Responding to a Spanish reporter's question about the disregard for ECHR rulings regarding Osman Kavala and Selahattin Demirtaş, Erdoğan said:

"Türkiye is a state of law. Within this state of law, the judiciary makes the decisions; our judiciary in the state of law has made its decision regarding the names you mentioned... We always fulfill what the laws say - whether it is Osman Kavala, Selahattin Demirtaş, or whoever it may be. We fulfill what the law commands. And this is what is being done. You probably don't live in Türkiye. We live in Türkiye. These are steps we have taken to ensure peace in the region in a serious sense, and it will continue like this from now on."

Are seeking justice, law, and life safety at the Palace, and little girls being able to sleep soundly only after meeting with Erdoğan, things that happen in a normal and real state of law?!

But, well, it happens in our country and - unfortunately - it is now considered quite normal.
