The US's Greater Middle East Project (GMEP) was the name for the fragmentation of African and Middle Eastern countries. What fell to Turkey's share in this fragmentation was a "Greater Israel" disguised as a "Greater Kurdistan." Iraq and Syria were occupied for this purpose.
In fact, this is what Erdoğan meant when he criticized the US for shooting down our SİHA (armed drone) at his party's parliamentary group meeting the other day, using the phrase: "Those who try to continue their accounts from the Gulf War era by backing the terrorist organization in Syria."
But unfortunately, we know that it was the AKP government that supported the US occupation of Iraq and Syria, and likewise, did not let anything the US did damage its relations with them.
Let us look at some of the debates taking place in our country regarding the inhumane war that has been going on for six days in Palestine and Israel.
The US sent an aircraft carrier to Israel. Erdoğan reacted to this with the words: "What is an aircraft carrier doing in Israel, what is it coming to do? It will take steps toward very serious massacres there by striking and leveling the entire Gaza and its surroundings."
The pro-government media ran headlines such as "The US is playing with fire" and "An 18-billion-dollar show of force."
The ship sent was the USS Gerald R. Ford, the world's largest aircraft carrier, which had been stationed in the Eastern Mediterranean for some time, and when it arrived in Israel, it posted, "We are on watch."
However, for some reason, apart from Can Ataklı, no one remembered that just 1.5 months ago, Selçuk Bayraktar was hosted on that very ship, and our media reported this with pride!..
WHAT IS HAMAS TO US?
Let us come to Hamas, which provided Netanyahu and Israel with the opportunity to open the gates of hell by initiating the attacks. Even while Erdoğan and Bahçeli are criticizing, there are those who are more "Hamasist" than Hamas.
Are you looking for the one who proposed, "Let Hamas be given an award in retaliation" for the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe giving an award to Osman Kavala, or those who compare those who say Hamas did wrong to "lice larvae" and tie the matter back to "Arab hatred"?
There was a journalist who said, "Your Bibi lost, gentlemen!" and a Deputy Minister who posted, "You will rot" for Netanyahu!..
As if they were not the same people who were celebrating just 2.5 months ago because Netanyahu was going to come to Turkey; and as if it were not Erdoğan who, 15 days ago, while announcing that he would pay a return visit after Netanyahu came, said, "Turkey and Israel are cooperating in many fields"!..
Even though the incident occurred in 2006 where Erdoğan, coming from Esenboğa Airport, "conducted inspections" in a furniture store to avoid encountering Hamas leader Khaled Mashal when then-Foreign Minister Abdullah Gül invited him to Ankara, the sympathy of Erdoğan and the AKP for Hamas is also known;
As is the fact that Erdoğan considers "Hamas not a terrorist organization, but a political party, a resistance movement trying to protect its occupied country," and that Netanyahu accused Erdoğan in 2018 of being "one of Hamas's biggest supporters."
But we know that, for ostensibly entirely "emotional" reasons, a lot of water has passed under those bridges, and the government's own newspaper, Sabah, reported before Israeli President Herzog's visit to Ankara last year that among the topics negotiated with Israel was "bringing Hamas's anti-Israel broadcasts under control."
It seems that even Erdoğan's statement the other day that "Blindly taking sides in a conflict only serves to deepen the crisis" does not matter to some.
THE GOAL OF COMPLETELY CHANGING THE MIDDLE EAST
The late Erbakan, who led Erdoğan for years, had taught them this in the 1990s, even before the GMEP was exposed:
"The purpose of the current UN is not to establish justice and right on earth, but the establishment and protection of Israel, and subsequently the establishment of Greater Israel... Soon it will take Lebanon, and following that, it will make Konya and Erzurum its provinces."
Following the latest war, a pro-government writer, referring to these assessments by Erbakan, reminded that Iraq and Syria were fragmented for "Greater Israel," that it was Turkey's turn, and that the PKK/YPG were supported by the US and Israel, and asked: "Today Jerusalem, tomorrow Şanlıurfa and Ankara will be occupied by the US and Israel."?!
Finally, Israeli Communist Party MP Aida Touma-Suleiman emphasized that the government, far from ending the occupation or making a political agreement with the Palestinians, is "taking rapid steps to realize the entity they call the 'Greater Israel state'."
After Hamas's latest action, how did Netanyahu announce his goal? By saying, "Our response to Hamas will completely change the Middle East."
Yes, Israel needs no justification to attack Palestine and Gaza; but could Netanyahu have said this if it were not for Hamas's latest action?
HAMAS LEADERS AND "KURDISTAN"
Returning to the "Greater Israel" project disguised as "Greater Kurdistan" within the scope of the GMEP;
Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas's Political Bureau, whom Erdoğan last met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas this past July and who performed a prayer of gratitude after the "Al-Aqsa Flood," stated in an interview he gave to Barzani media after Israeli President Herzog's visit to Ankara last year that they were against Arab and Muslim states, including Turkey, normalizing relations with Israel, while also mentioning their relations with "Kurds and the Kurdistan region."
Regarding a question about "the right of Kurds to self-determination," he summarized the following:
"In principle, we state that all peoples and components should enjoy their rights, politically and humanely. We believe that their voices should not be silenced, ignored, or excluded from political balances. The same applies to our brothers in the Kurdistan Region. This is also valid for our Kurdish brothers in Turkey, Syria, and Iran. Like every citizen in the countries in question, they should attain their rights... We undoubtedly accept what the Kurds deem appropriate for themselves... Their future and self-determination are something they can decide entirely for themselves, and this decision is taken within the framework of mutual understanding and agreement with the countries in which they live."
Ten days after Haniyeh, former Hamas leader Khaled Mashal spoke to the same media and answered similar questions. While calling on the "Kurdish people to be careful against Israel's games and intrigues, and not to allow Zionism to infiltrate Kurdistan," Mashal used the following expressions:
"The Kurdish people are a very oppressed and persecuted people... It is their right to look after the interests, security, and sovereignty of the oppressed Kurds. Since they are part of the political states of our region, I hope their demands will be within the framework of a single ummah and the unity of our countries... Kurdistan is a country with one part within the borders of Iraq, and other parts within the borders of Turkey, Iran, and Syria... This is a political geography and has been formed in the last centuries... I wish we could go back to the past; whether Kurdish, Arab, or Turk, we could become a single Islamic ummah again. The important thing is that we are part of a single Islamic state... Since the right to self-determination is the demand and desire of the Kurds, I hope it comes true."
Let us conclude with the words of Future Party Chairman Ahmet Davutoğlu regarding Erdoğan's attitude toward what is happening in Palestine. Davutoğlu said, "I am crying for the current state of Mr. Erdoğan, with whom we actually cried together in the same room for Palestine."
No, it is not Erdoğan who should be cried for, but the state to which they have collectively brought Turkey with dreams of "GMEP co-presidency, Neo-Ottomanism, and the ummah"!..
