Why was our work in Syria left unfinished?

Erdoğan stated the following at an iftar program held at the Ankara 4th Corps Command the other evening:

“Regardless of whose project it is, we will not allow a 'terroristan' to be established beyond our southern borders. We will fully guarantee the security of our Iraqi border by this summer, and we will certainly complete our unfinished business in Syria.”

It is well known to all of us whose project this “terroristan” or “greater Israel” disguised as “greater Kurdistan” is; and it is obvious that Erdoğan is not mentioning the U.S. by name so as not to smudge the new page opened after the visits of Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and MIT Chief İbrahim Kalın.

Since we have suffered collective amnesia as a nation, we want to dwell on these words: “We will certainly complete our unfinished business in Syria.”

Indeed, why was our work in Syria left unfinished? Let us recall.

That Disgraceful Letter

On October 9, 2019, Ankara launched Operation Peace Spring to create a safe zone in the region under the control of the PKK/YPG—which Erdoğan now calls a “terroristan” and the U.S. calls the “Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria,” disguised as the “Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).”

It was revealed that on the same day, then-U.S. President Trump sent the following letter to Erdoğan:

"Dear Mr. President, let's work out a good deal! You don't want to be responsible for slaughtering thousands of people, and I don't want to be responsible for destroying the Turkish economy—and I will. I've already given you a little sample with respect to Pastor Brunson. I have worked hard to address some of your problems. Don't let the world down. You can make a great deal. General Mazloum is willing to negotiate with you, and he is willing to make concessions that they would never have made in the past. I am confidentially enclosing a copy of his letter to me, just received."

In his letter, Trump added, “If you get this done right and in a humane way, history will look upon you favorably. If good things don't happen, they will look upon you as the devil forever. Don't be a tough guy. Don't be a fool! I will call you later.”

THE U.S.'S “TOUGH” LOVE PRODUCED RESULTS

What happened next?

In the first week of the operation, Trump's Vice President Mike Pence and Secretary of State Pompeo came to Ankara.

Following the meetings, Ankara announced that the operation was being “paused,” while the U.S. announced that a “ceasefire” had been achieved.

According to the “pause” or “ceasefire” agreement, in exchange for the TSK halting the operation, the terrorist organization would withdraw 32 kilometers south of the border within 5 days, the security zone would be under Turkey's control, the terrorists' heavy weapons would be collected, and a final ceasefire would be declared after all this.

Naturally, Trump was very pleased. He expressed his joy as follows:

“This is a deal that could not have been made three days ago. They had to have a little bit of ‘tough’ love in order to get it done. It’s a great day for civilization. I am very proud of the United States for following a necessary, but somewhat unconventional, path. People have been trying to make this ‘deal’ for many years... I want to thank President Erdoğan, I want to thank the Kurds and the Kurdish leadership. I want to thank certain countries that helped us behind the scenes. This is a tremendous thing. ISIS is completely under control and we continue to get more. A tremendous situation has emerged in many respects, and I am honored to be a part of something like this.”

Erdoğan, who could not remain indifferent to Trump's happiness, responded:

“Mr. President, more lives will be saved when we defeat terrorism, which is the arch-enemy of humanity. I am confident that this joint effort will foster peace and stability in our region.”

THEY SAID 5 DAYS, 5 YEARS HAVE PASSED

Almost 5 years have passed since the 5-day period given to the U.S. and the terrorist organization.

In the region that was supposedly to be cleared of the PKK/YPG, an “Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria” was officially established.

The U.S. not only continued to shower the terrorists with weapons; it even shot down one of our UAVs in Syria to protect them, and we didn't even make a peep.

Ultimately, 3 months ago, the so-called constitution of this “terroristan” was announced.

After Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan's visit, a “new page” was supposedly opened with the U.S.; the first note the U.S. added to this page was sending military reinforcements consisting of 40 vehicles to its bases in the PKK/YPG region.

The second note came yesterday.

It will be remembered; a helicopter crashed in northern Iraq last year, and 9 people died. It was understood that this helicopter belonged to the PKK/YPG and was carrying terrorists. At that time, the U.S. used the term “hero” for the terrorists and offered condolences to the terrorist ringleader Mazloum Kobani. On the first anniversary of this event, U.S. commanders participated in a memorial ceremony held for the terrorists in Qamishli alongside terrorist ringleader Kobani and laid a wreath consisting of the colors of the so-called PKK flag at a so-called monument.

WILL THE U.S. NO LONGER BE ABLE TO DESTROY OUR ECONOMY?

If we go back 5 years; we saw that Trump's threats to “destroy your economy” were effective both in the return of Pastor Brunson and in the halting of Operation Peace Spring.

Now that Erdoğan says, “We will certainly complete our unfinished business in Syria,” our economy must have reached a level of robustness that the U.S. can no longer destroy, even if millions of families have fallen into living on social assistance and our retirees are being denied even a pittance!..

There is also Biden's “emergency order” that deems Turkey's military operations in northeastern Syria an “extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States.”

I wonder if this order was revoked as a result of the successful U.S. contacts of Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and MIT Chief İbrahim Kalın, and we just didn't hear about it?!
