The loss of goodness, the reign of evil

Five children lost their lives due to stove smoke poisoning. A mother ended the life of her illegitimate baby with her own hands. A child was brutally taken from life by their family so as not to witness illicit relationships. A baby fell victim to sexual abuse by family members. And the lives of many babies were taken for a few pennies while they had barely opened their eyes to the world. 

What could be the reason for this chilling brutality that never seems to end? After every incident, politicians take to the podiums to clash with each other, shouting and making mutual accusations. But no deep-rooted solution can be provided. Moreover, it is being turned into material for the populist agenda of politics and trivialized. 

The causes of problems and events related to humans and society must be analyzed very well. Attributing them to a single cause would be misleading and would make the solution process impossible. Connecting the issue to morality, lifestyle, etc., and trying to get out of it is moving away from a solution. Each incident has sociological, economic, psychological, political, cultural, religious, ethnic, etc., causes. Often, several of these causes can play a role in the emergence of an event at the same time. 

Therefore, politicians should stop playing politics over these grave events, come together, and put the root causes of the problem on the table. Instead of struggling within the vicious cycle of "when elephants fight, the grass gets trampled," something must be done to find solutions to the problems. Wherever a mistake was made, it must be corrected as soon as possible. 

A good reading of society is needed. Economic hardship has concrete reflections on society. Ignoring or underestimating it leads to bigger problems. When people are left so desperate that they cannot find a drop of milk to feed their children, there is no need to attribute the resulting brutality to any other cause. If our people are stuck in a decision between letting their children live in hunger or not letting them live at all, there is no need for words at this point. 

On the other hand, we see that consciences have disappeared, morality has deteriorated, emotions have been shelved, and material-based self-interest has come to the fore. It is not possible to explain the slaughter of newborn babies in any other way. If a human can kill another for a few pennies, the roots of corruption, perversion, and inhumanity here have deepened significantly. 

We see that evil is effectively permeating the cultural veins of our society in general. It is possible to see the concrete reflections of this bad trend even in the ordinary relationships of daily life. People applying violence to each other, slandering, lying, scheming, applying pressure, etc., have become commonplace, even normalized. Evil is rapidly expanding its sphere of dominance. 

There are many people responsible for and causes of this bad trend. One of the reasons is, of course, economic. As people are squeezed economically and have difficulty meeting their biological and physical needs, they begin to feel worthless. This devaluation is gradually turning into devaluing others as well. Therefore, human beings are becoming meaningless to one another. 

On the other hand, the constant pumping of evil, violence, and self-interest through the media causes it to become commonplace. Therefore, people are being accustomed to seeing blood, violence, murder, theft, intrigue, lies, and deceit. Gradually, this is becoming their culture. 

In the old days, children were cared for by relatives such as grandmothers and grandfathers within the family. With urbanization and the development of the nuclear family, children are now left in nurseries at infancy or cared for by strangers at home. Perhaps they are receiving professional care compared to the past, but how possible can it be for the emotional intelligence of children raised in these environments, which are emptied of emotional content and where problems are often experienced regarding trust, to fully develop?

Again, until ten years ago, especially in primary schools, students would line up in the schoolyard every day before the start of classes and recite the Student Oath together, which preached goodness, truthfulness, love, respect, diligence, and patriotism. Of course, there is no such thing as all rules or habits in society lasting forever. However, I think it would be better if it changed over time within its natural flow. When the time and place come, the necessary change will happen or be made anyway. But untimely change can disrupt the balance in society. What was the harm in it? At the very least, every morning, as children repeated a few words together about values such as goodness, truthfulness, diligence, respect, and love, their consciousness was being shaped, and the sense of unity and integrity among them was strengthening. We pulled it out from there and replaced it with the chaotic channels of social media that are scattered, unfocused, and erode values, polluting brains. In that case, this must have definitely had an effect on this negative trend. 

As I stated at the beginning, the causes of problems related to humans and society are quite complex and often intertwined. Every decision made and every practice implemented definitely has some effects. For this reason, it is necessary to conduct holistic, multi-faceted social analyses that do not ignore the historical background to solve the problems.
