Hemangioma…

In a phone call from my wife, Esen Demir, who had made an appointment and traveled to Istanbul before the holiday, she said, '...I am having surgery tomorrow. There is progression in the hemangioma. It is invasive.' Invasive means the hemangioma cluster continues to advance within the bone tissue. As the hemangioma progresses, the bone weakens.  There is an invasion in our democracy too, the presidential system... 

Hold on, son, don't drag the topic into politics immediately. Continue with the health issue... 

What happens with a hemangioma in the 12th thoracic vertebra, in the spinal column that provides communication between the brain and the rest of the body! Where did this hemangioma come from right before the holiday? It's like an attempted coup against the body. My wife had only gone for a check-up.

I hopped on a plane and went. I arrived at the İstanbul Florence Nightingale (FN) Şişli Hospital in the evening. We waited for the morning. The team worked all night, and the necessary preparations were made. Early in the morning, Prof. Dr. Azmi Hamzaoğlu and his team came to the room. With his energetic and smiling face, he gave us a brief update. The team is excellent. They inspire confidence. 'We will take her in within an hour or two,' they said, and left the room. 

We've said so much; let's talk about hemangioma. Hemangiomas are benign vascular tumors that occur when blood vessels multiply abnormally, forming a cluster similar to a ball of yarn. They mostly appear at birth or during infancy. They either regress on their own or wait insidiously for the day they will cause harm. As I think about these things, I can't help but compare them to politics. What Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and the AKP have done to the CHP, Turkey's founding party,  flashes right before my eyes. 

Hemangiomas can settle in the skin, liver, brain, bones, and other organs. Although they generally remain calm and trouble-free, they can cause various complications depending on the organ they are in. Depending on the location; if in the brain, they can cause epilepsy; if on the face, vision problems and various infections; if in the respiratory tract, shortness of breath; and if in the bone, they can lead to fractures by affecting the bone from the inside out. 

It should be treated with intervention when necessary, without panic but also without letting our guard down. That is what we did. To prevent a bone fracture in the future, we placed ourselves in the hands of Professor Azmioğlu's team. They resolved the issue endoscopically. Once again, the successful efforts of the FN Hospital and its teams restored my wife's health. Many thanks to them. 

A fine example of preventive medicine and early intervention... 

When we say health, we always think of human health, don't we? The health of society and the nature we live in is also very important. It should not be ignored. We will talk about the health of nature later; I am setting that aside for now. 

We have not been able to explain preventive medicine sufficiently to the vast majority of Turkish society, especially farmers, and therefore we have not been able to make it a part of their lives. Although, in these economic conditions and life's hardships, people have little energy left to think about their health. Especially in recent years, private hospital chains have focused solely on paid healthcare services. While preventive medicine is not their responsibility, it should be one of the fundamental policies of the Ministry of Health. Regardless, they have responsibilities too. It seems that preventive medicine, which has very little place in health policies, has been completely shelved in recent years. 

Between individual health and public health, we are unable to experience healthy days in the world of Trump's politics and the Turkish political environment. Just as with preventive health measures, when timely and appropriate precautions are not taken in politics, one is forced to experience events like those at the CHP headquarters. It is very sad. The silence of Kılıçdaroğlu and his team leading up to today, and especially the events that followed their close contact with the AKP (the propaganda in the pro-government press felt like signs before a storm), will go down in history as a dark stain. 

Absolute nullity is said to be frequently used in the law of obligations, commercial law, administrative law, and civil law. However, politics is shaped by the 79th article of the Constitution, which regulates elections and the political world, and by the Law on Political Parties. This has been the case until today. But today, the decision of "absolute nullity," applied for the first time in Turkish political history by ignoring the mandatory provisions of the Constitution, has taken its place in history as one of the greatest blows dealt to Turkish democracy. 

I am not a legal expert, but as an educated person, according to the election laws, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu does not have a certificate of election, while Özgür Özel's certificate remains. In that case, who is occupying the CHP chairmanship? This part of the issue is for legal experts, but I am asking here because it puzzles me; I do not know where it will lead.

This attempt to strike a blow against Turkish democracy can now only be overcome through struggles in the squares, led by Özgür Özel and together with the people.
