Morale, motivation, anger…

I set off with my wife, Esen, and Kenan Bey in the electric vehicle I recently purchased in İzmir to attend the "23rd Göcek Gürsu Pırnaz Highland Walk" held in Göcek, Fethiye. We had a truly comfortable journey in my new electric car. We arrived at the 330 km distance between İzmir and Fethiye without even looking for an electric charging station. 

Kenan Karadağ talks about technological change. "I love your car. Use it in good health." No smell of diesel or gas, and no gasoline. Zero noise. There is not the slightest sound, noise, or vibration between starting the car and setting off. He asks, "How much electricity does it consume, is it expensive?" 

From electric trams, electric trains, and electric buses to electric (solar-powered) houses and residences, now electric passenger vehicles (taxis) have entered our lives. We are truly experiencing the technological change of recent years firsthand. Especially with the recent war in the Middle East and oil prices rising to 110 dollars, many more new pursuits are being explored. Batteries with a range of one thousand kilometers! Much more environmentally friendly, clean, natural, and safe transportation. The solar system continues to bestow its favors upon humanity.

But can the public experience this change with peace of mind? Especially with what is happening in the Middle East and Turkey? Come out to the street, ask the households, ask people in every walk of life, ask yourself? The answers we get? "How will it happen?" "Where is our country heading?" "Will it get back on track? Is a monarchy or a Sultanate coming? And so much more…

When we reached the cortege area in Göcek with our vehicle, people who came for the enthusiastic nomadic migration with camels—acquaintances and strangers alike—surrounded us before even saying hello. The first question they asked was, "Professor, will there be an early election? Is what Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu is doing right? Will the CHP fall apart? We even face these kinds of questions every day from our children who are taking exams. We don't know what to say. Can you explain it nicely, give us some news that will ease our minds? 

Will a new party be established? A deep pessimism has gripped society. A retired teacher participating in the walk said, "We have forgotten our economic problems that have become as heavy as a mountain, our credit card debts, and the ever-increasing cost of living." "We are tired of thinking about the future of our children and grandchildren." 

A mother who came from Antalya said, "My son is going to take university entrance exams! He cannot focus on his lessons or the exams! He says, 'I want to go abroad and study there.' As parents, we don't know what to do. Morale is zero. His motivation is close to zero; if he has anything, it's his phone in his hand, and he doesn't study his lessons enough because he's following social media."

We are in the cortege; we are heading toward the square with drums, horses, and Deveci Şükrü's camels from the highland, alongside the nomadic girls and boys and the Fethiye Municipality Band. We couldn't immerse ourselves in the enthusiasm. Our minds, thoughts, and ears are in Ankara...

The words of those coming and going, "Please don't give up on politics, get the country back on track. Support Özgür Özel," get squeezed between the sounds of drums and pipes and disappear.

On the street, in homes, and even in the squares, a real pessimism has taken hold. We are watching our National Team match over the weekend. We saw a lack of excitement and motivation even in that beautiful National Team. My daughter, Başak, said, "Father, there is hopelessness in every segment of society. This picture has started to become so chronic that pessimism is spreading and taking root in every segment of society, starting with the national team. We must overcome this. We have to, you have to, somehow overcome the conspiracies, the recent political games, and the chaos that have been put forward lately." 

My daughter continued her speech with excitement: "Every citizen who thinks about their country and its future must take responsibility, and we must disperse the dark clouds hovering over our country. We have the knowledge, the strength, and the faith to overcome this. As young people, whether we are involved in politics or not, we believe in and trust Özgür Özel. Despite the imperialist powers and their games, we will get our country back on track. We will ensure that the ever-increasing and growing social anger contributes to and strengthens the rebuilding of our democracy and our Republic. None of us have the right to be bad or pessimistic." "Our hope is Özgür. Turkey's hope is Özgür Özel."

Young people being hopeful about the future will pave the way for our country. I believe it too, I hope you believe it as well.
