An Islamist usurper tasked with tearing Syria to pieces, who is presented as an interim president, is posing for this photo in Western democracies. A door has been opened. It is hoped that similar figures—Turkish, Kurdish, Persian, Azeri, Baluchi, etc.—will soon be coming here as well.
Let’s be clear: The story being told is our own.
A mirror is being held up to our future, as if it were being photographed in advance.
We are being pushed toward that place.
This is a play that will be staged in the not-so-distant future via Turkey and Iran as well. We are talking about the farce of a visit.
Once they have been torn to shreds, some religious figures, acting as vassals placed at the head of this or that fragment of the old Turkey, will likely tour Berlin, Paris, London, and so on.
Just like “transitional head of state” Ahmed al-Shara...
Let us look and ask: Was there any significant reaction to the Berlin visit of this Sharia advocate, who was placed at the head of Syria by the US and its vassals? No. Everyone just accepted it. The president of Europe’s largest and most democratic country accepted a butcher who was installed at the helm of Syria after it was torn apart. They shook hands. They posed for photos. They probably “closed” quite a few deals as well. Ahmed al-Shara is happy, and despite his relatively dour face, the German President is likely happy too.
Is anyone surprised?
Democracy is like that. Let’s encode it more clearly: Imperialist democracy is exactly like that.
Those who deceive themselves with hymns to democracy in the name of leftism can continue their democracy sessions. If Western democracy were not a suitable climate for such scenes, would it be so popular? The photo transmitted to world agencies from Berlin has reminded us of a painful truth once again: Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the social democratic president of Germany, or Emmanuel Macron, or Keir Starmer are, in the end, just as democratic as Trump. After all, Ahmed al-Sharas are not considered inappropriate guests... Exaggerating the distance between them does no one any good. It certainly does no good for the Left.
But to whom are we saying what?
IF THE TURKEY-IRAN LINE BREAKS...
The point we want to reach is different. We have written it here before: The Turkey-Iran line forms the key geography in the world system’s calculations for the region. If they cannot break this line, their calculations will not hold. If it breaks—and the final key country is not Iran, but Turkey—a regime of disasters that might last for a century will dominate the region. Religious-ethnicist mafia statelets, reminiscent of the remnants of Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, Iran, and Syria, will cover the area. Thus, all kinds of industrial products, starting with weapons, will be able to be sold here.
But first, the Turkey-Iran line must be broken and divided into pieces.
We know this. The real question, I suppose, is this: What if they cannot manage it? What if they cannot break this line and, on the contrary, progressive/socialist-oriented and holistic, large political units come to dominate this line?
This is an American roulette. Unlike Russian roulette, here only one chamber of the revolver is left empty, and death is almost inevitable. Unless you get up from the table or overturn the table, there is no escaping the inevitable end.
We are at the point that a great mind, while writing in the third volume of the great work published in 1894 by his friend—the one called the “second fiddle”—noted almost in parentheses: “If the appearance and the essence of things coincided directly, all science would be superfluous.”
There must be an essence hidden in the photo taken in Berlin by the German head of state and the Islamist who is claimed to be the head of state of Syria. Perhaps it has more than one essence.
We might think that such photos are the harbingers of guests who will soon come to European capitals from a fragmented Anatolian geography.
In a Europe struck by neoliberalism and its democracy, no one will protest those future photos.
But we did not recall that issue of essence and form for nothing: What if this line cannot be broken? If they cannot break it. If imperialist arrogance is driven out of this line?
The photos of that time will likely be very different.
