How are society's 'mental maps' torn apart?

The answer to the question in the title could be 'Like this!' Naturally, by pointing a finger at the political geography of Europe...

What is happening? As you read these lines, Europe is shaking violently.

Those who wish can look at the cover of The Economist.

But let us look at ourselves first. The first thing we will likely see is this: before they start burning Turkey—after all, we are a key country—they are burning its surroundings. They have been doing so for a long time.

Yugoslavia was far away; the neighbors that were turned upside down, Iraq and Syria, did not create very destructive effects.

But while they are burning Iran, they are also burning Turkey's most important natural gas supplier. A major market is closing.

The side effect?

For example: It has become clear that Europeans, led by the Germans, will bypass Turkey in tourism this year. Reports that Turkish tourism has taken heavy blows due to the Iran war have already begun to be published one after another in the German media. Cancellations cannot be stopped.

A natural gas outage is a disaster, but for Ankara, which aims to host 65 million tourists and generate 59 billion euros in tourism revenue this year, a war in Iran is a separate disaster because it would trigger a flood of cancellations.

The Turkish economy was already in trouble, it will face even greater difficulties, and the poor will be caught in the middle of this fire.

So, what is the situation in Europe at this point?

IS EUROPE AGAINST AMERICA?

It feels as if we are witnessing a strange polarization.

Berlin, the 'real' capital of Europe—or rather, German Europe—is now openly declaring that it is not participating in Donald Trump's Iran adventure. It also frequently emphasizes that this is not a NATO war.

Is it being forced to? Perhaps.

Indeed, the fact that Chancellor Friedrich Merz has gradually withdrawn his initial support for an operation against Iran and is placing an increasingly surprising distance between his government and the Trump administration may provide an idea of the gravity of the situation. For instance, Federal Minister of Economics Katherina Reiche also felt the need to criticize the US oil plans yesterday.

These are figures whose pro-Americanism is indisputable. Yet, they feel the need to condemn Trump and his policies. Because the situation is dire.

Uneven development is such a law: We know that sectors, units, countries, states, and even individuals do not develop in parallel, equal, balanced, and sequential speeds, and cannot do so. We know this from socialist literature. If this is the case, crisis and war are inevitable even among partners. The free market order—one may also call it capitalism—has such a toy. Peoples are the victims of this toy...

We know that capitalists form alliances by breaking each other's noses; even their displays of affection are bloody, but the final bill always falls on the impoverished masses. Because the management cadres of liquidated or collapsed companies do not become impoverished; they are well-off, and it is always the laborers who remain under the rubble of the destruction.

If even right-wing politicians with no intellectual significance or depth, such as the EU's powerful woman Ursula von der Leyen and Kaja Kallas, the ignorant sycophant who has become a laughingstock of European politics, have begun to critically evaluate the outbursts and adventures of the Trump administration and felt the need to announce this through the media, it means the 'incident' has grown quite large and will grow even further.

They are trying to make the EU a world power, an international power center, and an element of authority. They all share the same desire, but it is not happening. As the US declines, the EU cannot take its place.

There is also no ideological polarization on a global scale. Because there is no left with the power to overturn the stage. For now.

It is as if we are in the year 1913.

In fact, the world system is here, too, trying to cope with the blows of the law of uneven development  is working.

“VERY LOW-INTENSITY” CIVIL WAR

The frictions are evident: It seems as if a very low-intensity civil war is prevailing within the EU. How else can we explain the strongman of Hungary (“illiberal democrat”) Viktor Orban blocking the 90 billion euro “aid” to Ukraine from the EU, while simultaneously struggling not to hand over power to Peter Magyar, who has the wind of Brussels (or rather, Berlin) at his back in the general elections on April 12?

Granted, it is very low-intensity, but there is still a scent/fear of a civil war within the EU that could suddenly surround everything. The EU could even fall apart...

What about the US?

It is evident that the US is facing a much more severe deadlock. The “world leader” does not present a monolithic appearance.

Let us not be surprised.

There are, of course, other reasons as well. But if development is unequal under the private property system, the continued division of the world through constant wars is inevitable. Unequal development always produces an imbalance between class brothers who develop faster and those who develop more slowly. It cannot happen without conflict.

We are living through it.

It is certain that we will face very heavy costs. Because Pandora's Box has been opened. However...

However, war also changes the 'mental maps' of societies. Things that were not even considered before suddenly take root in the public consciousness. Socialism, which was not even mentioned, can suddenly become a prescription for salvation in the eyes of society...

We want to say 'let those who sow war think about it,' but it doesn't work, because it is not the capitalists who suffer the pain of wars, but us; it is our children, our impoverished peoples who suffer.
