'If you sink us, your money will sink too!' Is that so?

Don't leave your news choices to an algorithm - decide for yourself what you read. Add 12punto to your preferred sources!

Is this a very serious wound, or a remedy found by the militants of imperialism within?

First, let us draw attention to a piece of "content" on social media to better explain our point: "According to the calculations of economist Ömer Rıfat Gencal, approximately 20 billion dollars of carry trade capital that entered Turkey since the beginning of 2024 has provided a real return of 66 percent in dollar terms over 2.25 years. The cost of this to Turkey is approximately 13 billion dollars."

Is it good?

It is.

Undoubtedly, it is not good for our poor people.

But it is a method.

A path.

How so?

Let us first briefly recall what this system called "Carry Trade" is and add to it: This path, in practice, is a small part of grand politics.

"Carry Trade" is, very roughly, this: You take out a large amount of credit from the banking system in a low-interest country, or you have money from a problematic source, and you invest it in the currency of another high-interest country (let's say Turkey), and thus you earn perhaps billions—depending on the amount of money you invest—from the interest rate difference between the two countries. Moreover, in one or two years. There is not much entering the real economy here. Furthermore, you can also get a significant chance to launder black money this way. Countries like Turkey think that they have guaranteed the foreign currency inflow they urgently need through this method, and they provide a terrible flow of value outward.

Of course, there are other similar value flows (escapes) and methods.

Why?

Don't those in power know that this wound, this blood, will sooner or later completely collapse the economy and even the socio-economic system of this high-interest country (let's say Turkey)? For example, doesn't the government in Ankara and its technicians in the economy know that there is no end to this?

They know.

But in the final analysis, they think like John Maynard Keynes: This system may collapse in the long run, it is possible, but "in the long run we are all dead."

That is how they look at it.

Still, they do not abandon this path so that the system does not experience a collapse in the short term. They cannot abandon it.

Why, you ask?

Because by connecting to the system and imperialist centers in this way, and by providing this kind of value flow outward, they think they are guaranteeing their power/profits within the framework of their own short lives. They have no horizon beyond the short term. "Making a killing" is an accurate expression in this sense. They think they can make a killing in the short term and that they can guarantee that the current ruthless system will not collapse within this short term through such tributes.

THE TRUE MEANING OF THE TRIBUTE REGIME

Let us recall the example at the beginning and consider Turkey, which "provides a service" of terrible value flow to the global imperialist system. The sovereigns think that the more foreign capital they can tie to a high-interest, relatively underdeveloped country with such "high profit in the short term" calculations, the more easily they can guarantee the survival of the system: They act on the simplistic notion of "If we collapse, their billions will sink too!"

Don't they?

Is it "not that simple"?

It is actually that simple.

Moreover, this is not limited to foreign currency and financial capital inflows and outflows. If they can manage it, they also provide facilities for "direct capital" investments in the real economy through company transfers, etc. They take commissions, partnerships. They sell the state.

The meaning of all these billion-dollar "investments" is this: Thanks to them, the robbery regime in the country will not be the subject of collapse operations by imperial centers. Any reason for the country to be collapsed means the sinking of the capital that came from outside and left again after sucking the country's blood and marrow; that is how they think. That is to say...

That is to say, the economic robbery regime we have needs to be guaranteed by foreign capital circles as much as possible—as long as the tributes flow. This is their way.

However, excuse me: This calculation does not only lie in the mind of the AKP government. The establishment opposition does not think differently from this either. They cannot think otherwise.

Don't they declare that the blood/wealth flowing from Turkey will not be cut off with the opposition coming to power by saying, "We will manage this system better!"? Has anyone heard any establishment opposition figure promising a collective nationalization move?

Sometimes they have to let something slip to appease the masses. Is there anyone who believes they will do what they say?

We must add that Keynes' famous quote has long since become invalid: We are all dead in the short term now. This is the system.

Furthermore, there is such an extraordinary amount of unsecured financial capital in the world that they don't get too upset when a little bit of it sinks somewhere. Although, as in the case of Argentina, they do not let it go. However, when that capital is about to sink, the system continues. Because when the capital they have sunk is in danger (for example: AKP), when it is no longer able to manage the new system very well, they do not hesitate to ride the horses of "Her Majesty's loyal opposition."

Until the peoples say stop to this ruthlessness, this blood transfusion, this tribute regime will continue.

Of course, not forever.

This is the entire summary of the AKP regime and its playmate, the "pro-NATO loyal opposition."

Will it work?

Let us just remember that the history of humanity is also a history of objection and rebellion, that is enough.
