In my previous article titled "Transformation," I implicitly touched upon the 150-year change in the lands we inhabit and explained that the opposition has no choice but to pressure for early elections and should hold its rallies in this vein. The very next day, calls for early elections began to emerge. In this article, I will try to explain what we have been put through in recent days and the possible cause-and-effect relationships.
The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) has begun budget negotiations for 2025. A parliament's primary duty is to hold the state accountable for its finances. Throughout November, the Assembly will debate the budget every working day. However, in the current order, the parliament has neither a significant say over the budget, nor is the subject on the country's agenda. Although the real agenda is poverty, the artificial agenda is the new constitution and, once again, the Kurdish issue.
Prof. Dr. Ahmet Özer was accused and arrested within the scope of a PKK/KCK investigation, and a trustee was appointed in his place. A 10-year retrospective review was conducted during the investigation. He was elected Mayor of Esenyurt from the CHP as part of the "City Consensus" (Kent Uzlaşısı) formed with the DEM Party. Esenyurt is Turkey's most populous district, with a population of 1 million, and is predominantly inhabited by Kurds. The investigation involved wiretapping, examination of account transactions, and physical surveillance. In his statement, Ahmet Özer was questioned about municipal concerts, the selection of singers, and books found in his home. Pro-government media is portraying Ahmet Özer as a PKK member who just descended from the mountains. Yet, Ahmet Özer is a rector of 10 years. It is understood that there is no legal basis for the investigation, that Ahmet Özer was chosen as a convenient, imaginary criminal figure due to his thoughts, and that the liquidation of the "city consensus" began in Esenyurt. The simultaneous leaking of the names of the Akdeniz and Toroslar Municipalities in Mersin, which were also won through the city consensus, shows that an alliance between Kurds and the CHP has been effectively banned.
There are other things being served as well: security camera footage shared minutes after the TUSAŞ attack, in which we lost 5 martyrs. While the country's real agenda was the economy, the MHP leader had spoken about the content of a potential speech by Abdullah Öcalan in parliament and the "right to hope." The day after the call to "dissolve the terrorist organization and end this business," a strategic military industrial institution was raided. An agency close to the PKK announced that the attack was carried out by an autonomous team, that it was planned in advance, and that it had nothing to do with the political agenda.
President Erdoğan, in his parliamentary group speech, did not neglect to stir up trouble within the CHP by thanking CHP leader Özgür Özel for raising the stakes. In the same speech, he said that borders in the region are being redrawn, that the interlocutor is the Kurdish citizens without accepting intermediaries, and that terrorism is ravaging Esenyurt. The government has initiated an artificial period in which it will ruthlessly apply state power against those who do not stand with it on the issue of constitutional amendment. It is now better understood why gangs like the "Daltons" and "Caspers," which we talked about some time ago, were fattened up and brought to the agenda. Because we are a people who live in the present and the now.
The arrested Ahmet Özer is a former advisor to Ekrem İmamoğlu; this is one of the main reasons why they started with him. İmamoğlu made his presidential candidacy speech on October 29 and also clarified the content of his candidacy. He criticized the "top-down presidential government system imposed on Turkey through a dubious referendum" and positioned himself as a conceptual rather than a personal candidate. Mansur Yavaş, on the other hand, was cautious and mentioned the inconsistencies in the Ahmet Özer investigation in a written statement.
The US presidential elections on November 5 are seen as a historic opportunity for all those in power in our region. It is observed that Trump will win, that the US will focus on its internal affairs, and that this will create a political and military vacuum in the Middle East. It can be said that Israel has been attacking brutally and making progress because it foresaw this vacuum in advance. As for the government, it may be planning a long-term reconciliation and a confederal union with the Kurds in Iran, Iraq, and Syria by changing the first 4 articles and turning the "Turk" into a "Turkiyeli" (person from Turkey).
The CHP has 21% representation in the TBMM. The parliament has the power to change the constitution, including the first 4 articles, without a referendum. Erdoğan and the DEM Party clearly stated in their group speeches that the parliamentary arithmetic is a historic opportunity. At this point, Kurds are being forced to take the side of the government. Likewise, a hand was extended to them, and the next day a terrorist attack took place. A week later, the home of a 10-year rector was raided at night, and he was accused of being a terrorist. In other words, they will either be "acceptable Kurds" and support the new constitution, or they will continue to be labeled as PKK members. A problematic connection has been made between Ahmet Özer and Ekrem İmamoğlu for a political ban. Mansur Yavaş, meanwhile, is being squeezed slowly. Erdoğan traditionally leaves no strong rivals in the field. The government wing, which started the whole process by making a statement addressed to Abdullah Öcalan, has both made people forget about Selahattin Demirtaş in prison and has not taken the DEM Party as an interlocutor on the Kurdish issue.
The only way to get out of this whirlpool is to force the government into an early election as we enter winter. We lost another 5 years of our lives in the May 14, 2023 elections. However, no one has the strength left to endure these artificial agendas. The real agenda is the economy, poverty, injustice, lack of merit, and hopelessness. The public regrets their choices in the May 14 elections. The actions of those who accused the CHP of separatism with fake images that day are now clear for all to see. The country needs to be taken to an election quickly. For this, 356 deputies in the TBMM need to say yes to an early election. But how? As Hamlet said; that is the question.
