For a while now, I have been suffering from the disease of our age, 'anxiety and anxiety disorder'...
Actually, I have recovered quite well through therapy, various spiritual sessions, and the 'life goes on, you know!' consolations.
When that moment comes, I have gained the power to banish the whispering voices and worries that form in my mind. I am engraving into my brain, down to its very folds, who the boss is.
Lately, almost everyone I talk to is experiencing similar situations.
So why are we so anxious?
The pandemic?
The economy?
Increasing acts of violence?
Wars?
Cases of abuse?
Natural disasters?
Traffic?
All of them?
A dose of each... And, of course, the reflection of all these on our own lives.
The problems we face in our relationships, and on top of that, the state of being a parent.
Motherhood is, in itself, a state of living with a stone in my heart.
It is such a strange state that last week my daughter caught a type of flu that most people are experiencing lately, which we used to call a common cold in the past, but which now has Latin names.
Fever, fatigue, sore throat, and cough...
At one point, while she was exhausted from coughing, as I was loving and kissing her, I found myself saying, 'Oh my dear, may God take the illness from you and give it to me.'
Just like my mother...
That is what motherhood is like!
A state of 'let what is bad for you come to me'...
And an endless pang of conscience...
In this entire environment of insecurity, how can we not be anxious?
With this feeling, we are in a much more protective state towards our children. We are constantly in a position of warning them about something. Sometimes I wonder if we are exaggerating too much.
Are we perhaps burdening them with information they are not ready for?
Along with this, it is also necessary to remember from time to time that we are acting as a mirror for the person in front of us.
Your anxiety state and your fears are directly reflected in your child.
Lately, depression and anxiety have started to be seen very frequently in childhood.
Some parents think their children are doing this to get attention.
There are certainly exceptions. However, in this regard, as always, I advise you not to forget that your children are your reflection.
Unfortunately, when it is left too late, more serious problems arise...
So what are we going to do?
Based on my experiences, we first need to learn to cope with our own anxieties, get help from an expert, and calm down.
Without suffocating or squeezing our child, we will not let go of control. We will talk a lot.
We will not get tired of telling them that we are always by their side, no matter what.
Most importantly, we will take deep breaths.
Yes, there are illnesses, wars, people who have chosen to be bad, and unfortunately, injustice in this life.
However, there are also recoveries, people full of healing, and those who stand against injustice.
Today, an unfortunate event may happen to us. We may fall, we may get injured.
We may get sick, we may be devastated, and sometimes we may be tested with death.
All or one of these may happen to us.
Oh, and we shouldn't forget the parents who know everything and the experts who have an opinion on every subject.
We are constantly being tested with new information. Yes, it was not like this in the past. Our problems and illnesses in times when development was low were appropriate for that era. I think we are experiencing all of them depending on the current development. Our children are also moving towards a completely different era. This will continue like this.
The important thing is how we behave as much as we can in the face of all this...
The biggest difference between humans and other living things is the ability to reason and the sense of conscientious responsibility.
'Being conscientious and honest is better than being calculating. Calculation may give a person a position, but conscience serves a more important purpose; it makes a person human,' said Friedrich Nietzsche...
I think we are forgetting conscience the most these days. And as we forget this, the mirror our children see becomes darker.
