Do not harm the 'middle class', gentlemen

Let us begin our article with a quote from Nazım Hikmet.

It is his birthday.

He was born 122 years ago.

"It is mothers who raise a man

It is the light that leads us forward

Were you not also born of a mother

Do not harm mothers, gentlemen"

He begins this way and continues by saying do not harm children, the elderly, or brides.

Lately, I have been seeing quite a lot of “middle class” themed videos on social media.

If Nazım Hikmet were to see these videos, would he have added another stanza!!!

“Do not destroy the middle class, gentlemen”

That is.

Turkish cinema addressed this issue way back in the 1980s.

Directed by one of Yeşilçam's most important leading men, Kartal Tibet, and starring the great actor Kemal Sunal, the 1984 production 'Orta Direk Şaban' is one of the most well-known of these films.

In this film, which also makes a reference to Saudi billionaire Adnan Khashoggi, the collapse of purchasing power and the state to which inflation has reduced our lives are clearly depicted.

It is not as if similar troubles have not started to be experienced today,

However, with his white suit and keffiyeh, 'ayva ayva' I wish the end of that charming billionaire who said this had ended as happily and peacefully as it did in the movie.

Anyway, according to the videos,

They say there will be no such thing as a middle class left.

They say there will only be the rich and the poor.

I do not know if that would be economically good or bad.

But,

The poor will not be like the poor of the past,

They say.

They will have a house and a car,

They say.

There will be no heating, housing, or other expenses,

They say.

Politicians supported by the wealthy will provide free, quality education for our children and free healthcare for us all,

They say.

They keep saying things, and they say so much more.

Not even for the Sultan, who would board a boat alone from the pier of the Sadabad Plain stretching toward the Golden Horn and the Kağıthane stream during the Tulip Era, were such things said.

Recently, employees at a famous and fancy educational institution, which has plenty of advertisements and branches in almost every square meter of the country, stated that their salaries were no longer sufficient and that they were having trouble even covering their children's nutrition expenses, asking for a little 'salary adjustment' had requested.

The boss, in response to those requesting adjustments, sent word:

They can leave a little early and find a second job, or they can collect their severance pay from accounting. he sent word.

To be continued - It will continue!!
