Do not harm the 'middle class', gentlemen

He begins this way and continues by saying do not harm children, the elderly, or brides.

Lately, I have been seeing quite a lot of “middle class” themed videos on social media.

If Nazım Hikmet were to see these videos, would he have added another stanza!!! 

“Do not destroy the middle class, gentlemen”

That is.

Turkish cinema addressed this issue way back in the 1980s.

I do not know if that would be economically good or bad.

The poor will not be like the poor of the past,

They will have a house and a car,

They say.

There will be no heating, housing, or other expenses,

They say. 

Politicians supported by the wealthy will provide free, quality education for our children and free healthcare for us all,

They say. 

They keep saying things, and they say so much more. 

Not even for the Sultan, who would board a boat alone from the pier of the Sadabad Plain stretching toward the Golden Horn and the Kağıthane stream during the Tulip Era, were such things said.
