May God grant them more, but wasn't it supposed to be “win-win”?

Thanks to these social media accounts, a tremendous communication revolution is taking place, even if it is virtual.

A multi-layered tracking system has emerged.

Just think about it, you are friends on social media with the President, whom you could never even approach in person.

He sends you his daily activities.

Saying, I am here, I am there, I said this, this person came to visit me, that person left.

You send a message to your boss at work, bypassing the private secretary.

You can even ask for a raise in your salary.

I have been grinding away at the university for nearly 30 years.

I follow my graduated students very frequently through these social media applications.

None of them ever call to “ask how I am” or treat me to a meal, but when they are in a tight spot or looking for a job, I am the first person who comes to their mind.

“Professor, I applied to this firm, do you have any connections there?”

“Professor, I listed you as a reference on my CV, they might call you.”

We live with the feeling that we are always together.

Where are they, what do they do, which firm do they work for?

Did they get married, did they have children?

All the answers are in the social media application.

So far, I haven't come across any of my graduates who are at the poverty line.

There aren't many who are unemployed either. Occasionally, I see a message saying “I am looking for a new job” on this application.

Generally, they are in good shape.

(I am not talking about the misery, desperation, hunger, and hopelessness experienced recently, especially by the new generation)

But there are some who have really made it.

Some have reached monthly incomes 3-4 times higher than a “senior-ranked” professor like me, in countries whose names I don't even know, or in the most developed countries that are G8 members.

There are those among them who earn 8-10 thousand dollars in salary.

Some are building hospitals, some roads, some airports, and some energy facilities.

They have bought houses, cars, and land.

They have accumulated significant wealth.

They are thinking of returning to their country with their savings and starting a business.

Good for them.

May God grant them even more earnings.

We don't envy them.

We wish them well.

I just want to say this:

“What did you do, what did you produce?” says the CITIZEN who constantly scolds those of us who have been educated, the literate intellectuals, in the marketplace,

The CITIZEN who constantly accuses us of being infidels and accuses us of wielding the infidel's sword just because we have kept up with the evolutionary process and have become different from them,

Haven't we also made a contribution to this beautiful country, even if not as much as you?

And with an income equivalent to a municipal police officer's salary.

And without any under-the-table gains.
