Charlatanry and science face off

Charlatans have always existed, and they try to pull science into their own irrational pragmas. Their primary goal is not to conduct science, but to gain popularity and financial profit through charlatanry. But unfortunately, it is science and humanity that suffer.

As charlatans spout their nonsense, some people take them seriously, believe it to be true, follow them, and try to find cures for their ailments.

I recently came across a video posted by one of these charlatans on social media, and it pained me. It is clear that this person is profiting significantly from this, and it is clear that many poor souls are falling into such traps.

What is it, you ask? Apparently, the cause of breast cancer is known, and they have found the solution. The cause is treating mothers poorly, and the solution is to stop this behavior. This venerable person, this great inventor of the medical world, decided to be useful to humanity once they solved this secret of breast cancer and began offering therapies on the subject. Those who pass through this person's therapy lodge apparently establish good relationships with their mothers and subsequently find a cure for their ailments.

No one approves of treating mothers poorly; of course, they should be treated well. It is very strange for someone to come out and turn this into a charlatan-style profit scheme.

It is not just this; there are many others like them. The number of those who claim to ensure the expulsion of cancer cells or viruses from the body through prayer therapy is not to be underestimated. According to these charlatans, cancer cells or viruses enter the human body along with the devil, or are carried into the body by jinns sent by the devil, etc. It is supposedly possible to cleanse the body of diseased cells or viruses by cursing the devil or exorcising the jinns.

At this rate, there will be no need for medical schools. After all, what is the point of grinding away for years to get into medical school? And it is not easy after getting in; you have to study for at least six years. Six whole years of one's life, then the TUS exam, and so on and so forth—what is the need for all this suffering? What is the point of being a physician if you cannot find a cure for ailments? Someone or other finds a shortcut anyway.

It is not just in medicine; there are divine and chosen people in many areas of life who produce easy and short-term solutions, possessing a very different intuitive power. Reaching them is enough to get rid of the world's troubles. You do not even have to make physical contact; virtual access is now possible with the opportunities of the digital age. No matter where you are in the world, when you are in a tight spot and contact one of them, they send that magical energy ball to your location, and whatever you want happens.

It turns out the genie that comes out of Aladdin's Magic Lamp to solve problems was real after all. While we are at it, I would like to share a memory.

It was years ago. A professor friend of mine was preparing for the rectorate elections. At that time, rectors were elected by the votes of academics at the university, and under normal circumstances, the professor who received the most votes was appointed as rector. Anyway, I was very surprised when another professor friend of ours, who was trying to support the campaign, said that they would contribute to the process by sending energy balls. I will never forget how they explained with faith, determination, and enthusiasm that when they sent an energy ball during meetings held in areas where the opposition was dense, the opponents would instantly turn into supporters. Our esteemed professor had attained the privilege of interacting directly with the universe, unlike other people, and was experiencing the pleasure of turning this privilege into a benefit for humanity.

What more could a scientist want?

By the way, this was the early 2000s. Fortune-telling and universe-interaction corners had been set up in some cafes in the city center. Whoever was struggling with illness, poverty, or searching for a spouse, a job, or a livelihood began to rush to these places, and queues began to form.

I do not know how many people found a solution, how many apples fell from the sky onto whose heads, or who got their wishes, but fortune tellers, dream merchants, and energy designers must have made quite a profit from this, as at the point we have reached today, this field has turned into a huge industry.

One must admit this: the spiritual realm is important for people. In every period of human history, under all conditions, it is important for people to create a field of spiritual value and to bond with each other in this field in order to live as a community and establish social and cultural structures. However, it should not be forgotten that there is always a potential to exploit this spiritual field in every social environment.

Keeping people's beliefs and spiritual value fields away from exploiters is of serious importance, first and foremost, for the formation of social character and cultural continuity.

On the other hand, the continuous healing and development of humanity and the ability to build a more livable world are only possible by making a reason-oriented scientific understanding dominant. It is a necessity for a more livable world that all individuals in society receive education in the light of reason and science and build social reality from a rational and scientific perspective.

In a world where reason and science dominate, it would not be possible for faith merchants and dream exploiters to find a living space.

Therefore, education focused on reason and science is essential.
