CYANIDE DIARIES FROM BERGAMA-7.

For the last thirty years, our country has been shaken from within by the damages and threats posed by cyanide-leaching gold mines.

When examined very carefully, it is evident that beyond the environmental problems and deaths caused by "Cyanide Gold Mining" in our country, it has also led to very significant consequences in "politics and state administration."

Despite the decision by the Council of State, the high court, that this mining practice, which began in Bergama, was contrary to the articles of the Constitution regarding the "Right to Life" and "Public Interest," the point reached through the circumvention of this decision, with some high-level state officials turning a blind eye and supporting such enterprises, is frightening.

(Erzincan-İliç Çöpler Cyanide Gold Mine at the bottom of the Euphrates River)

Along with the environmental problems that have erupted in such facilities across Anatolia, in the disaster that occurred in plain sight at the Erzincan-İliç District Çöpler "Cyanide Gold Mine" on February 13, 2024, 9 of our people lost their lives, buried under more than 20 million tons of cyanided, poisoned soil used to extract gold.

It was not three or five kilos. Our people were crushed alive under toxic soil as large as a mountain.

According to information provided by journalist İbrahim Gündüz; if this "cyanided, toxic tons of soil had flowed not in an east-west direction but toward the north, 1500 people living in the village of Çöpler would have died, and the world's most dangerous chemicals would have mixed into the Euphrates River."

The toxic waste would have also devastated the environment extending all the way to the Persian Gulf.

Who knows who else would have died!

***

The creators and operators of the disaster at the Erzincan-İliç Çöpler mine are the subjects of the definition of a complete "Cyanide Octopus."

"Multinational," or even "transnational" companies that wrap around the world like the arms of a giant octopus have besieged Turkey, just as they have many other parts of the world.

With their large machines resembling suction cups, they suck the gold from the soil, leaving behind a thousand kinds of poison.

(The disaster site at the Erzincan-İliç Çöpler Cyanide Gold Mine on February 13, 2024, and the machines searching for the 9 workers who died there)

These unpleasant companies emerge from within one another like the cute Russian Matryoshka dolls. They merge, they split, they establish new companies. They change their names.

It is a observed behavior that "Cyanide Gold" companies, which establish businesses that pollute nature by wrapping their arms around the four corners of the world, transfer these mines to each other, change ownership, and evade potential responsibilities.

Perhaps they think that this is how they lose their tracks and disappear from view.

The first operator of the "Cyanide, Sulfuric acid Gold Mine" in Erzincan-İliç Çöpler is a company called "Anatolia Minerals Development Limited," based in Denver, the capital of the US state of Colorado.

This company has been busily searching for ore and trying to operate mines in Turkey since 1996.

Five years later, in 2014, it is this company that came to our country to supposedly "develop Anatolian mines," which opened and began operating the Erzincan Çöpler mine in 2009, where a major environmental disaster and human massacre occurred.

In 2011, the "Anatolia Minerals" company merged with "Avoca Resources Limited," Australia's third-largest gold producer based in the city of Perth, and became even stronger. It was restructured under the name "Alacer Gold."

The "Alacer Gold" company was then incorporated into the larger, Vancouver, Canada-based "SSR Mining" company in 2020.

This "world of cyanide" is a world consistent with the nature of global capitalism, where the big swallow the small but still keep them on the side to use them.

The "SSR Mining" company is a "global" company whose shares are traded on the Nasdaq in the US, and on the Toronto and Australian Stock Exchanges.

It operates the Marigold mine in Nevada, USA, the Seabee mine in Saskatchewan, Canada, and the Puna mines in Argentina.

All of these are operations that spew toxic waste into the environment.

"SSR Mining," which grew in the context of the companies that joined it, has been in Turkey since 1996.

Meanwhile, in 2000, "SSR Mining" established the "Anagold" company in Turkey through a partnership where 80% belonged to itself and 20% to a local company called "Lidya Madencilik."

The Erzincan İliç Çöpler Mine, which began to be operated by the company called "Anatolia Minerals Development Limited" in 2009, appeared to belong to the "Anagold" company on April 13, 2024, the day the major environmental disaster occurred, but its true owner is the experienced poisoner that swallowed this company, "SSR Mining."

It is understood that the parties responsible for the disaster that caused the deaths at the Erzincan İliç Çöpler Gold Mine are the sum of multinational, transnational companies such as "Anatolia Minerals Development Limited, Avoca Resources Limited, Alacer Gold, SSR Mining, Anagold."

After all, gold has no nation anyway!

These cyanide companies, whose paths were cleared by the Mining Law enacted during Turgut Özal's Prime Ministry in 1985, and which flocked to our country with the open invitation of the then-Energy Minister Ersin Faralyalı in 1989, are on top of our country's underground assets with the businesses they operate or are preparing to operate, and with new partners.

Meanwhile, it is reported that "Anatolia Minerals Development," which is under the "SSR Mining" company that poisoned the Erzincan İliç area, is eager to extract "Copper, Molybdenum, Gold" in Tunceli Province, 65 km south of the Erzincan Çöpler mine.

It will spread thoroughly across Anatolia!

The British-Australian joint venture "Rio Tinto" company, which is stated to be collaborating with this company to poison the Munzur Mountains, which possess a unique nature, is another phenomenon in World Mining.

(Tunceli-Munzur Mountains)

"Rio Tinto" is one of the stars of the capitalist world.

It is known that "Rio Tinto," which is alleged to be associated with the famous wealthy Jewish Rothschild family and to have had its affairs facilitated by former US President Reagan (!), also causes environmental and social problems through other companies it is a partner in.

In this context, in East Asia, in a place called Irian Jaya, west of the island of New Guinea within the borders of the Indonesian State, locals oppose the damage caused to the environment by the "Grasberg Cyanide Gold Mine" operated by a company affiliated with "Rio Tinto."

Look at the work; the Indonesian Government is also a partner in this enterprise.

With the support of Rio Tinto, the Indonesian State Armed Forces violently intervened in 1994-95 against the people who wanted this mine to be closed.

(Environmental disasters in Indonesia-Irian Jaya)

Those who resisted were declared "terrorists." Many people were killed.

Moreover, as a result of the spread of toxic waste from this mine into the environment, the soil and water on which the indigenous people, who made their living by growing rice in their fields, depended were poisoned; in 1997, no crops could be harvested from the rice fields, and 545 people died of starvation.

Toxic waste mixed into the streams and flowed into the sea.

They had no pity for nature or people!

Now, this "Rio Tinto" has the intention of entering Tunceli in Anatolia.

The Munzur Mountains, covered with lush oak forests, glacier roses, many plant and animal species that grow only in this region, streams, rivers, and plateaus, are now under threat and are anxious.

Anatolia is part of a vast area that geologists call the "Tethys Belt," which extends from Eurasia to Asia, China, the Middle East, and Europe, and possesses rich metal deposits such as gold, copper, lead, and zinc.

"Tethys" is the name given to the sea that existed between the collective land masses in the north and south at the very beginning, during the time of the formation of the Earth's lands.

This name should be taken from "Thetis," the name of the mother of the powerful Achilles in ancient Hellenic mythology.

Thetis, a sea goddess, dips her son into the magical waters of the river Styx in the Underworld, holding him by his heel when he was a child, so that he would be immortal.

Achilles would not be harmed in any fight, but he could only die if he were wounded in the heel where the water did not touch when his mother dipped him into the river.

The one who shoots and kills him in the heel with his arrow is Paris, the Anatolian Prince of the city of Troy in the province of Çanakkale, which the Hellenes burned and destroyed.

For this reason, the phrase "Achilles' heel" is used today for the weakest point of facts.

The scientific world likes to use such mythological names to name concepts.

***

Geologically, Erzincan and Tunceli are within this vast area called the "Tethys" belt.

Multinational poisoner mining companies, of course, have the information that there is gold and valuable metals in these places.

It is to say that "SSR Mining," which is a branch in our country of the "Cyanide Octopus," the name we give to all "cyanide gold companies" in the world, has one hand in the Çöpler Gold Mine in Erzincan-İliç and the other in Tunceli.

SSR Mining and its extension Anatolia Minerals are attempting to carry out the mine in the Tunceli Tunçpınar Cevizlidere deposit together with its local partner in Erzincan, "Lidya Madencilik."

Along with this, in this process, SSR Mining, together with Lidya Madencilik, is preparing to extract "copper" ore in Bakırtepe between Gümüşhane and Giresun.

Lidya Madencilik, which found the mine here, is very happy about this discovery.

(Tunceli-Tunçpınar-Cevizlidere)

As if these were not enough, SSR Mining now has its eyes on the "Kartaltepe" mining site, which is located approximately 5 kilometers away from the Erzincan-İliç-Çöpler Gold Mine, where the disgusting disaster occurred and 9 people died.

They want to extract gold here as well using "cyanide" and "sulfuric acid."

Of course, the appearance and name change immediately!

The one aspiring to "Kartaltepe" is also "Alacer Gold," a company under the control of "SSR Mining," the true owner of the İliç-Çöpler Mine.

With an intense advertising propaganda carried out on the internet in recent days, an attempt is being made to create public opinion to allow the "Kartaltepe" mine, which is intended to be operated using poison.

As if the death of 9 people in Erzincan-İliç-Çöpler, millions of tons of toxic soil, and the pollution or potential pollution of the Euphrates River were not enough, now a similar toxic scenario is being staged in Kartaltepe with similar methods.

"Are we going to be the poor guardians of our rich mines!"

"There are those who do not want Turkey to get rich!"

"Other rich countries that are jealous of us are trying to prevent us from extracting gold!"

"Actually, substances like cyanide and arsenic are our friends (!), they are not poison, they are rose sherbet (!)."

Eeee! So what? The disappearing nature, the dead souls!

"No dear, what happened was an accident! It won't happen again!"

The discourse is this and similar to these.

***

The local partner of "Anagold," which operates the Erzincan-İliç Çöpler Mine, and the "Alacer Gold" companies, which want to operate a mine in the new Kartaltepe, both owned by the multinational "SSR Mining" company that pollutes our country, is the local "Lidya Madencilik" company.

The partnership shares in all of them are 80% SSR Mining and 20% local Lidya Madencilik.

The local partner in these ventures, "Lidya Madencilik" Company, is Çalık Holding, which was established in 1981 and whose activities and wealth have increased rapidly in recent years in Turkey.

"Lidya Madencilik," whose Chairman of the Board is Malatya-born Ahmet Çalık, was established in 1997.

In 2007, Berat Albayrak, who married the daughter of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who was the Prime Minister at the time, in 2004, and later became the Minister of Energy, Treasury and Finance, was appointed as the General Manager of Çalık Holding.

In this process, the "Turkuvaz Media Group," owned by Çalık Holding, incorporated many media outlets such as Sabah Newspaper and ATV, and then sold this group to Orhan Cemal Kalyoncu, a Bitlis-born member of the new rich.

This process led to many rumors.

The persons mentioned above who are citizens of Turkey are people closely known by the public.

**

Our country is experiencing such a process in this period of its history.

Our underground riches are being plundered recklessly using toxic methods.

Perhaps permission is given for these jobs with the thought that our country will get rich with the gold extracted (!).

However, not even a crumb of these values produced for our country remains in this plunder.

People are being poisoned, getting sick, and dying while saying gold, gold.

Some are adding wealth to their wealth at home and abroad.

Others are ignoring what is happening.

The dead of Erzincan do not wear gold!

Public officials do not even care about the objections of the society!

That is our situation!

Our great poet Yahya Kemal Beyatlı says in a line;

"...may your fate turn for the better," our end, he said.
