Cinema, which contains everything related to humanity and life and is a blend of other arts, is also known as the 'seventh art.' This term belongs to the Italian-born French film theorist Ricciotto Canudo.
Journalist Olcay Bağır has prepared a guide for those who want to learn about cinema in more detail. Its name: SineSözlük (CineDictionary).
It is a book that takes you on a journey through the history of cinema. The author describes the story behind the preparation of this work, which also includes terminology, with the words, "I want everyone to have basic knowledge of cinema."
Dear Olcay Bağır, who has worked in numerous media organizations for many years, kindly signed and sent me his first book, SineSözlük.
As I turned its pages with great curiosity and could not put it down, I gained access to a wealth of information not only about world cinema but also about the history of Turkish cinema.
The book, which holds an important place for an introduction to cinema and says 'hello' to the art of film in 101 entries, is also ambitious in its contribution to a contemporary general cultural foundation.
I would like to provide one more piece of information about the author of the book. Years ago, Olcay Bağır published a cinema magazine called "GodFather" with his friends and served as its editor-in-chief.
I wanted to briefly mention "SineSözlük" to you as a Sunday column.
Offering an alternative to the academic approach with the framework it establishes, the book provides researchers, film students, and cinema audiences with a wealth of information on film history, film genres, cinematic movements, and numerous terms related to the art of cinema.
Every book is a world for its reader and an excitement for its author. The first book, however, holds a special place. All long journeys begin with the first step. With the belief that this will be the harbinger of many more books to come, I wish success to the esteemed journalist and author Olcay Bağır. I thank him for contributing such a bedside reference work to our literature.
