Propaganda is an element as ancient as the history of humanity. It is also an element that maintains its relevance today. It carries the goal of ensuring the flourishing and dissemination of specific ideas.
Propaganda activities are encountered in all societies, from the most advanced democratic administrations to the most authoritarian systems. It is an important communication method for persuading, winning over, or obtaining the consent of individuals and communities. Looking at its etymological meaning, it is derived from the Latin word "Propagare," which means "a gardener replanting the shoots of a fresh plant into the soil to produce new plants."
People encounter many propaganda applications during their daily lives. Especially in the political arena, actors are faced with the necessity of communicating with the masses in order to establish dominance over communities. This is because the political process is a communication process. It is impossible to send messages to the intended audiences without establishing communication.
Political communication is the name of a process that aims to observe the effects of the language and symbols used by political leaders, mass media, or citizens on the attitudes or behaviors of individuals.
Political communication and propaganda have a characteristic that covers all areas of politics and a wide span of time. There is a close relationship between political communication and propaganda. So much so that there are times when political communication is defined as propaganda.
With the introduction of the concept of propaganda in terms of political communication, political communication has begun to play important roles within society and between societies. Political propaganda, which is at the forefront of the activities that political parties carry out to be successful, is carried out in different methods and forms today. All active processes aimed at obtaining and retaining political power are carried out using communication techniques.
