We are on the eve of September 15, a historic day. Everyone is holding their breath, waiting to see what will happen! If the court rules in favor of 'absolute nullity' at the September 15 hearing, the power in the main opposition party will change. This will also lead to the questioning of elections and democracy due to the method of transferring duties/offices obtained through elections!
The stance taken will affect not only one party but also the future of the country. Because the issue is not just the CHP! It is not limited to who will obtain power in the CHP either... It seems it could also affect the political system and the shaping of the color of the main dynamo of the opposition bloc.
POWER…
'Power' (iktidar), one of the fundamental concepts of political science, is derived from the word 'kudret' (might) in terms of its origin. It also includes meanings such as force, influence, property, sultanate, reign, strength, dominance, authority, and administration. Power, which is the authority that holds the right to influence, direct, and keep individuals under control regardless of whether people or societies have their own demands or consent, also emerges, as Antonio Gramsci stated, in a hegemonic way by defining other people's ideas, desires, and needs through persuasion and conscious construction.
The meaning of the attitude and interventions of the power holding political authority regarding the construction of consent and the power struggle within the political structure that is its biggest rival becomes clear in this context.
ABSOLUTE NULLITY
Much has been written and said about what 'absolute nullity' (mutlak butlan) means. Let us recall it once more. Absolute nullity describes a state of serious deficiency or defect that is at the core of a legal transaction and renders the transaction completely invalid. The actions in question are considered as if they were never performed in the legal system. In other words, they are void from the very beginning. This situation mostly arises due to reasons such as being contrary to public order, contrary to morality, impossible subjects, or the incapacity of the parties.
HISTORIC MOMENT…
There is much speculation about whether Kılıçdaroğlu will sit back in his old seat or not if a decision of 'absolute nullity', or in other words, 'the invalidation of the party congress', comes out of the case on September 15. I am no fortune teller. I cannot know what will happen. But like many people, I evaluate the importance of the decision to be taken at a historic moment. People are responsible not only for what they say but also for what they remain silent about…
Whatever the court decision may be, the stance taken is important, especially for the future of the country, democracy, free elections, and the freedom of political competition!
