“Heaven lies under the feet of mothers,” “There is no love like a mother’s”—we have such empty words, but in real life, being a woman in Turkey is harder than the life of a gazelle trying to drink water from a river full of crocodiles in Africa!
Yesterday, we woke up to yet another mind-boggling piece of news.
What happened at a luxury residential complex with 7 blocks in Diyarbakır left everyone speechless.
In the videos we watched on social media, a group armed with axes raided the complex and tried to prevent women from entering the site's pool!
These creatures, who know no bounds in their vandalism and have not received their share of humanity, came to the site with axes just so women wouldn't enter the water...
The group, breaking sun loungers and throwing them into the pool, shouted, “We will pour concrete and close the pool.”
As the argument escalated, one individual threatened the residents, saying, "Let's see which one of you is strong enough to stop us. We have killed your masters, and the location of their graves is still unknown. Who do you think you are talking to? We will have the pool closed; we will pour cement."
I wonder how these men, who confessed to unsolved murders, will be interrogated?
But this is neither the first nor the last act of bullying. The issue is enabling these and other such deranged fanatics!
God help us, we are very good at that too.
Yesterday, the Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) characterized the consumption of alcoholic beverages as "immorality" in the Friday sermon read in approximately 90 thousand mosques across 81 provinces.
The relevant section of the sermon stated:
"Let us make our unity, solidarity, and brotherhood stronger. Let us avoid all kinds of evil such as lies, backbiting, gossip, and slander; and all kinds of immorality such as alcohol, gambling, adultery, and bribery. Let us refrain from sins that destroy our deeds, such as arrogance, hypocrisy, ostentation, and oppression; and from violating the rights of individuals and the public, which is a great burden in the sight of Allah."
Now, if a group of these axe-wielding maniacs were to take an axe, a cutter, or a shovel, claiming “Alcohol is immorality,” and raid places where alcohol is sold, or even attack women they see there by saying, “They go to the pool anyway,” and cite the Diyanet sermon as their reference, what would you be able to say?
It wouldn't happen, but let's say a group of vandals took the sentence “Let us refrain from violating the rights of individuals and the public” seriously, took note of the news about public rights violations that appear in newspapers every day, learned that 700 thousand of the Diyanet's sacrificial proxies were for abroad and that the institution made a profit of 1.6 billion liras from this, or saw the news that the assets of the Presidency of Religious Affairs' incorporated facilities in the USA exceeded one hundred million dollars, that they operated million-dollar rental villas as hotels under the guise of guest houses, and that 11 villas belonging to the Diyanet-USA company as well as 2 detached houses worth hundreds of thousands of dollars in the vicinity were purchased—what would happen if they showed up at the door of the Diyanet with an axe in hand, based on that sentence about “violating the rights of individuals and the public”?
Although you would say that the Diyanet denied these reports…
Yes, they denied them, but they did so without providing information. As everyone always does, they said, “The allegations do not reflect the truth.” But in their statement, they did not mention that the claim about their assets in the USA exceeding 100 million dollars was a lie!
Let us come to our main topic… to our women whom we belittle by asking “Is she a girl or a woman,” who are deemed to deserve harassment for wearing a miniskirt on the metro, who are not allowed into their graduation ceremonies at school for wearing a sleeveless dress, and who are harassed by axe-wielding perverts when they want to enter the pool in their own residential complex…
They say a fish rots from the head; if the leaders of society, administrators, clergy, educators, mothers, and fathers do not value women, how can axe-wielding maniacs be expected to?
