The UK government is taking a "scalpel" to the social welfare system! But as it turns out, this scalpel will cut into the wallets of disabled people already struggling with economic hardship. According to the plan announced by Secretary of State for Work and Pensions Liz Kendall, approximately 1.2 million people will be affected by benefit cuts, and the government plans to save 5 billion pounds from this.
Who are they saving money from? People who struggle to find work, who cannot work due to health problems, and who are already starting life two steps behind...
THE ISSUE IS NOT CUTTING BENEFITS, BUT SENDING A MESSAGE
In the current system, those who cannot work due to health conditions receive an additional 390 pounds per month on top of Universal Credit. But the government wants to cut this money. How? It's very simple: by saying, "You are sick, but you can work!"
For example, people experiencing mental health issues such as depression or anxiety may no longer receive these additional benefits. In other words, according to the government, someone waiting for surgery or someone struggling with panic attacks should "go find a job!" But which employer will say, "Okay, we'll hire you immediately" when these people apply? There is no answer to this, because the goal is not to create employment, but to send a message: "We are reducing social benefits!"
The government's plan is to force disabled people into the workforce. But how? Will they make someone with a mental or physical disability a cashier at a supermarket, have them work in construction, or give them a position in an office? There is no answer to this question, because behind the plan there is no real solution, only figures that "look good" on the budget!
THE TURKISH COMMUNITY WILL ALSO GET ITS SHARE OF THESE CUTS
Thousands of Turkish citizens in the UK benefit from these social assistance programs. Some are battling severe illnesses, while others are struggling to survive with physical disabilities. We have many people who do not speak English, struggle in the job-seeking process, and are in need of this support to provide for their families.
It would not be a prophecy to say that the Turkish community will also take a major hit with this new government policy. When finding a job is already difficult, being told "come on, continue without benefits now" will turn people's lives upside down. So, is there anyone thinking about this? Of course not! Because the issue is not protecting people, but seeing nice numbers in financial reports!
IF THE GOVERNMENT WANTS TO SAVE MONEY, IT SHOULD DO IT ELSEWHERE!
If the issue is truly saving money, the government should look at where the waste is! Millions of pounds spent on public projects, unnecessary consultancy fees, money siphoned off to tax havens. But chasing those is, of course, not easy. Instead, it is easier to take 390 pounds a month from the hands of a disabled citizen.
Health systems around the world are collapsing. But there is, of course, another plan underlying this. They want to privatize the health system, just like in the US. In other words, human health will eventually fall into the hands of insurance companies all over the world, and they will decide whether we are well or not using artificial intelligence. If even the world's richest countries have evolved into this, then God help us all!
