Can a graduation ceremony be held in a mosque?

The academic term at universities has ended, and students are filled with the excitement of graduation. This year, the graduation program of the Gülhane Faculty of Medicine was held in a mosque. Do not say, "Can a graduation ceremony be held in a mosque?"... Of course it can, why not!

Our graduating brothers and sisters went, prayed, and gave thanks for being able to graduate... May God accept their prayers.

I wish the issue were just about giving thanks. Because these young people are not students of a Faculty of Theology. Nor are they students of any department at an ordinary university...

It was the graduation program of the Gülhane Faculty of Medicine that was held in the mosque! Formerly known as the Gülhane Military Medical Academy: GATA.

This is the school from which Turkey's most valuable scientists and doctors have graduated. No one has any objection to the event in the mosque or the prayers offered. But the "guests of honor" at the event caused confusion. Because those guests are figures who have no respect for science, reason, or women's rights...

These children will become doctors, and human lives will be entrusted to them. But who are the guests of honor at their graduation ceremony? Two figures who are enemies of science and enemies of women!

One is İhsan Şenocak. This esteemed gentleman is the person who tells fathers who send their daughters to university or whose daughters wear trousers that they are "destined for hell." There is no need to recount everything he has said... He is a representative of a bigoted mentality, a misogynist...

The other guest of honor is Nurettin Yıldız! If we were to try to write down everything this person has said, pages would not be enough. He is such a misogynist that he would say, "If a woman is being beaten, she should be grateful"... He is a man with a pedophilic perspective, going so far as to say, "There is no harm in a 7-year-old girl marrying a 25-year-old man"... And this person is posing with new doctors at a GATA graduation.

Nurettin Yıldız is a name that has been systematically polished, especially in recent times. You may remember; at an event held at Boğaziçi University, exactly 97 young people were detained simply because they reacted to his words by saying, "We do not want this mentality." Reacting to bigotry is almost a crime now!

My dear newly graduated doctor brothers and sisters, may God accept your prayers... But before adopting the perspective of these men, look again at science, reason, and human rights. Do not forget that this mentality, which issues fatwas for 7-year-old girls to be married off and give birth at 12, also gives the "green light" for your own sisters and cousins to be married off at a child's age.

Perhaps these are the same men who would call your father "destined for hell" for sending your younger siblings, who might want to follow your example and study medicine, to school!

Congratulations on your diploma... But do not forget to be a benefit to the country and the nation, will you?
