Following the cancellation of the CHP Istanbul Provincial Congress and the appointment of a trustee committee to the provincial administration, all eyes turned to Gürsel Tekin and his committee, who accepted the role as trustees.
I always confuse Gürsel Tekin and Berhan Şimşek. Their looks, styles, clothing, facial expressions, and body language… They are so similar. Their positions within the CHP are also close to each other. During the periods when they were actively serving, both were like Hollywood stars in front of the cameras. Well, Berhan Şimşek is an actor anyway, but we also saw Gürsel Tekin's acting talents in the video he released yesterday. Tekin gave the good news that Berhan Şimşek would also join the team. Thus, my expectation for a duo like Zeki Alasya and Metin Akpınar was met!
Trustee Tekin shot and shared a video explaining that they had started their duties with the committee. I haven't seen anything this funny on the political stage for a long time. You know those videos of kebab shop owners who try to emulate Nusret and shoot promotional videos? Well, it resembled those a bit. He took his four friends with him and introduced his team by saying, “My lion friends, my tiger friends.”
Tekin took the stage as if he were introducing the kebab master, the waiter, and the cold appetizer chef at a kebab shop he had just opened; he presented his friends, who were looking at him as if to say, “What on earth have we done?” For example, he said, “Zeki, the chairman, has been a CHP member since the day he was born.” This introduction reminded me of the words of a club president for a football player transferred from Galatasaray to Fenerbahçe: “He was born a Fenerbahçe fan; if you cut his veins, yellow and navy blue would flow.” The marketing method is the same. So, you could call it a kebab shop or a club president.
Then he turned around and kept introducing each of his friends by flattering them in the same way. At the end of the video, he praised his team again by calling them “my lion friends.” I was actually scared for a moment. You know those moments when Fatih Terim shouts, “Come on my lions, march on my tigers!” before sending the team onto the pitch in European matches… I thought Gürsel Tekin would end the video by slapping his friends on the back just like that.
However, Hasan Babacan, who was “staff—pardon, a politician” in the video, must have been uncomfortable with the way he was introduced, as he announced shortly after that he had “withdrawn from the trustee duty.” A few hours later, Mehmet Gürbüz also announced his withdrawal, saying, “One cannot work in this restaurant.”
Politics in Turkey continues with a performance that truly rivals comedy films. Wherever you touch, you encounter characters from Levent Kırca sketches. Those who don't know how to write their own names, those who don't know how to read, those who constantly transfer from one party to another… Those who know no bounds in sycophancy, those who dip their fingers into the honey pot…
Everyone who emerges to govern the country or the parties actually needs to get a health report. We need not just a physical, but also a mental health report. Because these politicians, who emerge from a nation with broken psychology, are doing their best to make the nation even more insane.
The shabbiness in every field in the country has reached such a point that politics is in the same state. Both in the government and in the opposition… You know how they say, “There is no difference between us,” that is exactly how it is.
Now I ask Gürsel Tekin and his friends: What kind of career plan are you making in the party you were appointed to as trustees? Let's say you became the Istanbul Provincial Chairman as a trustee, what will happen? Will you become the Secretary General within the party tomorrow, or will you aim for the Chairmanship? Let's say the grand congress is also cancelled and a trustee is appointed there too. Your favorite brothers and friends came; you all seized the party together. Well, will you have any standing in the eyes of the nation? Will you manage the party, which you think is being managed incorrectly, more correctly?
Won't this move you made raise the thought in the public eye that you are “in agreement with the government”? Will you be able to get the same votes when you seize the party? A footnote should be added here: You could not reach these vote percentages when you were inside the party.
Of course, our concern is not to interfere with the internal affairs of the CHP. But the issue has long ceased to be just a party matter. History repeats itself. One day, one of you will come and do exactly what you did. Life is a world of “what goes around comes around,” but in politics, this finds a response much faster.
Are you going to be the opposition within the party? Of course, this is your greatest democratic right. However, instead of coming by appointment as a trustee, it would probably be more virtuous to be an opposition by being respected within the organization.
Although the Turkish nation is now used to appointments. Rectors who come by appointment, mayors who come by appointment, judges and prosecutors who come by appointment… Everyone comes everywhere by appointment. Is there anyone left in the country who is qualified and has earned their place?
