Did the Syrians leave for good?

Newspapers and television channels shared footage of Syrians in Turkey returning to Damascus. There were images of those who set off in convoys during the day. The night photos are even more interesting. A flood of light created by automobiles…

All vehicles have TR license plates… Many are luxury vehicles…

Syrian refugees who arrived running barefoot are returning in luxury cars.

But there is neither a suitcase nor a trailer in the cars; in other words, it is as if it is not a permanent return!

I hope they don't bring their cousins back when they return to Turkey… Because would they leave behind in one night the country where they have lived for years, established a routine, opened shops, settled down, and even earned more than they did in their own country?

In other words, the possibility of them returning to pick up the relatives or belongings they left behind seems more likely than them making a permanent return!

In fact, even those who did not leave in their private cars set off with only a single backpack. Furthermore, it is observed that it is mostly men, rather than families, who are crossing into Syria alone. So, the return is certain, but how they will return is a mystery.

As for another dimension of the matter, the real civil war in Syria is just beginning.

It is unclear how Syria will be divided. It is an undeniable fact that there will be new waves of migration in this division.

Syria is currently at such a turning point that no one can predict what will happen along our 911-kilometer border.

With the fall of Damascus, Israeli forces have already crossed the buffer zone in the Golan Heights and entered Syrian territory. It was even claimed today that they were advancing toward Damascus. Israel denied it, but countries including the UK and Germany issued condemnations, stating that this advance was unacceptable.

Israel, the US, Russia, and even Iran… They all have an agenda. So, what is our agenda?

Is it to distribute license plates as Devlet Bahçeli said, or to rub our hands together thinking we will get the construction contracts?

The primary goal must, of course, be our border security. Because both a new wave of migration and the organization of terrorist groups here must be prevented. But beyond that, diplomatic contacts will also be very important.

Israel entering Syria just hours later, the plans of Iran and radical groups in Syria, Russia's bases in Syria, the groups supported by the US, and the Kurdish State on the table…

These are not just issues to be watched from afar. Or they are more important than the fear in public opinion of “Who will we employ cheaply if Syrian workers leave?”

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated, “The Syrian people are facing a historic opportunity.” This is an accurate assessment. The Syrian people must claim their country and unite, regardless of whether they are Turkmen, Kurdish, Sunni, or Alawite. Although this seems very difficult, they have no other alternative if they want to leave a country on the map for future generations.
