On the contrary, it was the main topic of yesterday's session in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), the most competent place where the nation is represented!

While the 'jerk' negotiations were being held, they were discussing how many times the word 'lan' would be used in the coming period, which is why the deputies addressed each other this way; otherwise, our esteemed deputies who represent the nation would certainly not utter such words in the supreme assembly!

If it were a normal session, the Parliament TV broadcast would be cut by RTÜK and punished with a statement starting with the words, "incompatible with the national and moral values of society and not in line with the Turkish family structure."

Jokes aside, the dialogues above took place during the debates that started after the remarks of Malatya Deputy Veli Ağbaba, who took the floor while international agreements were being discussed in Parliament, regarding the shortage of earthquake housing.

Tensions rose in Parliament when Ağbaba reminded everyone of the homeless people, stating that while 103 thousand houses should have been built in his constituency after the earthquake, only 7 thousand had been built. Mutual insults such as 'don't talk to me like that, lan', 'I'm saying lan to you, lan', 'jerk', 'your mouth is filthy', 'shameless man', 'low-class', and 'drunkard' between CHP's Ağbaba and AKP deputies were reflected in the official records. It has become a cliché, hasn't it? The argument that 'we are moving away from our customs and traditions. We must protect our national and moral values.' Well, was speaking like this part of our national and moral values?

Let's come to the savings measures package to be announced on Monday...

Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek announced, together with Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, that the savings and efficiency package will be announced next Monday.

After the Minister's statement, the US financial agency Bloomberg brought up some allegations regarding the package.

According to Bloomberg, the savings plans include items such as slowing down some early-stage infrastructure projects and not implementing new ones unless deemed necessary over the next three years, stopping the purchase and leasing of vehicles and properties used by the government, and cuts in public sector recruitment.

The details of the savings plan will be clear at the beginning of the week. However, there is such a phrase in Şimşek's statements that it is necessary to open a separate parenthesis for it.

The Minister of Finance; while talking about disinflation, macroeconomics, currency subsidies, and so on, mentioned 'Gold' between the lines.

Şimşek said, "We have imposed a quota on gold imports. Vested interests are not happy. They shouldn't mind. It is not in the interest of the country for a commodity that you buy from abroad with foreign currency to sit on the sidelines as gold."

We imposed a quota on gold imports, but is the minister upset that foreign companies operating in the gold mining sector in our country take the gold they extract from our soil abroad and sell it back to us?

Because most of the businesses operating in Turkey are foreign firms. The companies searching for gold in Turkey are companies based in the USA, Canada, England, and the Cayman Islands.

If we are angry about the gold under the pillow sitting there and talking about that, that's another matter. Although the people don't have much gold left under their pillows anyway. Even if they did, you wouldn't be able to make them give it up even if you chased them with a stick, let alone a savings measures package.

They saw what happened when they exchanged the foreign currency under those pillows before. That's why it's a bit difficult to get them to exchange it this time.

Gold prices gained over 1 percent yesterday following the unemployment data announced in the US, reaching their highest level in 3 weeks.

The ounce price of gold is trading at 2 thousand 371 dollars with a 1.12 percent gain. While only those who invest in gold have been winning lately, you cannot stop anyone from investing in gold.

Let's say we made the poor person exchange their savings and brought it into the economy, just like with foreign currency! But what about the others? Who will you be able to say, "don't buy gold, don't invest in gold, it's not in our interest, don't let your gold sit on the sidelines" to?
