Jellyfish without brains can learn from their mistakes!

A news story in the 'lifestyle' category of our newspaper, 12Punto, caught my attention the other day. According to a study by scientists, jellyfish can learn from their past experiences and learn from their mistakes, even though they lack a central brain!

Scientists have shown through their research that jellyfish can acquire this ability with the help of associative learning.

Jan Bielecki, who wrote the article on the research, says, “Learning is the pinnacle of performance for nervous systems.”

So, are we able to learn from our mistakes?

As all the nonsense happening lately drags us deeper and deeper into a bottomless pit, are we not learning anything at all from what has happened in the past?

For two days, everyone from the highest levels of the state to ministers, from opinion leaders to artists, and from institutions to the citizen on the street, has been in a race to condemn...

The most important item on the agenda is Ankaragücü President Faruk Koca entering the pitch at the end of the Ankaragücü - Rizespor match and punching referee Halil Umut Meler.

Calling the incident 'Disgraceful', 'Scandalous', or 'Savagery' is not even enough; we agree on that much.

Isn't the quote "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results," which is attributed to Albert Einstein but was actually said by the fictional character Jane Fulton in Rita Mae Brown's 1983 book "Sudden Death," so fitting for this situation?

Didn't a fan who entered the pitch during the Ankaragücü-Beşiktaş match just last season attack Beşiktaş players? Wasn't Josef de Souza, who was protecting his teammates, punished with a red card?

Those who did not impose sufficient penalties that day are now shouting “Enough!” Is human life this cheap? What if Halil Umut Meler, who was kicked in the head after being punched, had suffered a brain hemorrhage and lost his life...

Would the only culprits have been those who hit him?

The tendency for violence in Turkey, which is increasing day by day, has now reached uncontrollable dimensions.

Instead of preventing this, finding an excuse in every situation to forgive and failing to impose the necessary penalties unfortunately encourages society to commit such crimes.

Sentence reductions for good behavior for those who kill their spouses, release on signature at the police station for those who commit assault, and punishments that feel like rewards for hooligans...

Don't we condemn them all every time? Don't we say, “This cannot go on like this”? Or, as TFF President Mehmet Büyükekşi shouted “Enoooough” in front of the cameras the other evening, don't we shout on social media using emojis as well?

It is enough, but what are we doing to deter people from this savage emotion?

Everyone has the phrase “The authorities must put a stop to this now” on their lips! Is there an authority?

While the subject has turned to violence in sports, is the Ankaragücü President the first club president to enter the pitch and walk toward the referee? Haven't we always forgiven the managers who swore at referees from the sidelines and the club executives who made statements after matches? Which one of them did we punish?

Didn't we stay silent by evaluating them based on their position, political background, and who they are close to?

So, is it wise to make the same concessions every time and then expect different results? Or, as the fictional novel character said, are we going insane?

Matches have been postponed. Won't the same chaos continue when the leagues start again? Won't club presidents and club spokespeople come out after every match and say whatever comes to their minds about the referees? Will the punishment to be given to Ankaragücü and its President be a deterrent?
